martinez set for 2nd interview tomorrow
source The Guardian

Roberto Martínez is set for a second round of talks with Bill Kenwright on Friday as the Everton chairman closes in on appointing a successor to David Moyes.

Kenwright claimed there was no clear favourite for the Everton job before meeting the Wigan Athletic manager on Wednesday and has met other candidates in recent days. Porto's title-winning coach, Vitor Pereira, was among them and remains in contention, though Martínez will be the first to be interviewed twice by the Everton chairman.

The Wigan manager was not offered the job of replacing Moyes during Wednesday's initial meeting but could be installed by early next week provided the latest negotiations go well. Unlike the past two summers, when he was approached by Aston Villa and Liverpool, the 39-year-old informed the Wigan chairman, Dave Whelan, that he wished to leave the DW Stadium prior to holding talks with the Goodison Park club. Everton are also the only club given permission to approach Martínez so far.

club to submit plans for next years revision of crest to fans

Director of Communications Alan Myers said: "As you know, we have made a commitment to allow supporters to choose our crest for the 2014/15 season but for this coming season we have our 2013/14 crest and we will wear it with pride, and, accordingly, will support it as our crest for the duration of the season.

"Of course, we all know it will change in 2014/15, and we have introduced the new crest in the most cost-effective way possible.

“I am finalising the plans to allow supporters to choose the Club's next version and these will be released later this month.

a interesting old article on martinez on when he took over swansea which their fans didn't want and he guided them into the premiership and got them playing the attractive football that brendan rodgers inherited later on

1.) But he didn't get Swansea to the Premier League. He did however take a mid-table team in Wigan and under him became a team battling relegation every season and eventually going down this season.

2.) Swansea got to the prem 2 seasons after he left

with all the negativity on here about martinez and I admit I am the same he wasnt my first choice or 2nd or 3rd!
but I found the following piece from a article lightened my mood on him a bit to think maybe its not all doom and gloom

He brings beautiful possession football and tactical flexibility to the table, making every game he takes charge of an enthralling watch.

It's arguable that his tactics were too advanced for a mediocre Wigan squad, and it led to defensive mistakes, but that won't be an issue at Everton considering their stellar roster.

Many fans have pondered whether the Toffees could switch to a three-man defence to release Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman, and Martinez is the man who can make that happen.

There would be no more protecting one-goal leads, and above all Martinez would be a long-term project in the same mould of Moyes' reign.

He's young, he's hungry and he shows more loyalty than most in football.

The Mirror clocked Vitor Pereira as the favourite for the job last week but he's a big, big risk. Bill Kenwright would be wiser to stick with the English Premier League-proven manager who also carries a little European flair.
