For those of us who felt Moyes Mk I rather out-stayed his welcome and weren't too keen on his return, then all the old frustrations are clear to see. Leopards don't change their spots. However, I fully expect Moyes to see out his contract. He delivers what's needed, if not what's desired, albeit in none too stylish a manner.

I would be most concerned if TFG were contemplating extending Moyes' contract any further. To me, that would signal that solid mid- to upper mid-table + the occasional venture into a lesser European competition is where their ambitions lie. That would be under-whelming, to say the least.

I hope they are realising that the Club is capable of so much more, if properly managed from the top down.

I think that's fair, Toff. He's certainly met the brief, even exceeded it, perhaps. We all want to kick on, though, and see better football, but patience is key. No need to offer him a new contract at this stage.

Small steps. Look what happened last time we rushed.

He came in last January when it looked like we were going down. He kept us up comfortably, and now we sit steady in mid-table after one summer window when we had loads of out of contract players and couldn't spend madly due to PSR. After the last decade of replacing managers at the drop of a hat, then spending more for new players to suit the new manager, then sacking that manager, etc.

etc., it seems that some of our fans have learned nothing! Finally, back on an even keel after a miserable 10 years, and people expect us to be top 4 and playing like prime Barcelona. ??

People don't expect us to be like Barcelona. But they do expect us to play a reasonable style of football. We went out of both cup competitions playing negative football.

That, in itself, should not be acceptable. Moyes has done ok, but if we want to progress further, then we need to thank him at the end of the season and move on to a next-level manager.

Moyes was fuming after we went out of the FA Cup. He did not send the players out saying 'please play negative football'. We're far from the finished article, but we are making steps forward, I believe.
