With the greatest of respect for Brentford and Bournemouth. Having a target of competing with those clubs shows just how unsuitable a manager Moyes is for Everton Football Club.
I fully appreciate that competing with Arsenal, City, or United is, at this moment, unrealistic, but that should be the target, and steps to reach that target should be being actively persued.
The lack of ambition in Moyes' public statements is both soul destroying, and hardly likely to attract the type of player we need to start closing that gap.

Get shot of dithering Dave asap would be a step in the right direction.
20 Jun 2026 16:54:25
Small steps though, mate, those clubs have been run well over the last few years, and have left us playing catch up. You could include Palace to that list too. They have all bought and played well during the time we have been scrapping at the other end.
We haven't been a top 8 club for close to a decade, so the target should be to catch up to them before looking up again at the so called top 6. You said it yourself, it's unrealistic to target the likes of Arsenal et al just now.
20 Jun 2026 17:31:41
Well, Aston Villa managed it, and it didn't take them years and years. Sick of this small steps tripe. Get the right manager first, doesn't need to take years and years. Even Sunderland have shown what can be achieved with the right recruiting.
20 Jun 2026 18:22:55
Some of us are sick of the constant whining too, mate. If you think we are going to be making massive strides with the squad we have, then you're being very naive and totally unrealistic.
The difference is that Villa bought well over a sustained period, we haven't yet. Some of you expect us to be some formidable force, crazy!
20 Jun 2026 19:10:58
Bluepotato, if you look at Villa when they sacked Gerrard and brought in Emry, they were in a relegation battle. He bought Rogers, Digne, and Martinez in the summer window, and the winter window was McGinn, Cash and Steklenberg on a free, and they made Champions League the following season and have added each season, and last season bought nobody due to psr. They have got a manager who gives his younger players the first team touch, and they are Champions League regulars and also Eufa Cup winners, all in less than 3 years.
So all this about Dinosaur Dave and his reluctance to even give us a glimmer of hope, it seems to me you think that in 3-5 years with this loser at the helm we may possibly get a top 8 finish. I am 70 years of age, have been going since 1963 and thru the glum 80s, but this man has dragged us down constantly even first time around, and at top 6 teams he is like a snail afraid to come out of his shell. Don't quote we beat Man Utd, he has won 2 of something like 82 games against to the top 6, enough said.
20 Jun 2026 19:24:58
Could not have put it better myself, Alanc. Seems some supporters have been brainwashed into believing some of the tripe this man talks.
20 Jun 2026 19:30:08
Thanks, BDM. My post was meant to say 70s, not the fantastic 80s from 83-87.
20 Jun 2026 19:49:14
Al, I don't necessarily disagree with you. Read my first comment, mate. We haven't bought well in comparison to the teams that have been mentioned above so, in my opinion, we can't expect to be pulling up trees with the squad we have and our recent history of scrapping at the bottom of the league with almost the same players.
I'm being realistic, not backing the manager.
If we had decent full backs and decent forwards, it would be a different proposition but, alas, those positions have been filled with inadequate players for too many seasons.
20 Jun 2026 20:07:50
Bluepotato, I agree with your comments, but surely it must be a kick in the teeth to hear your manager coming out with statements so frequently it makes me think he is preparing for the s to hit the fan and is in the process of covering his a**e.
20 Jun 2026 20:33:09
Very difficult for us to assess how well we have bought, Bluepotato, since Moyes either does not play them or plays them in a position they are not best suited. Have to agree, though, we can and should do better.
I for one am not expecting miracles. What I do want is for us to play attacking football which is pleasurable to watch and gets us out of our chairs.
Generally speaking, in my long experience, when this happens the positive results follow. It does, however, have its risks, which is why we need a solid defensive foundation which we don't have at present.

It was actually Gerrard that signed Lucas Digne.
Villa actually haven't bought that well at all, which is why PSR are knocking. Maybe about 5 or 6 decent signings at a push. It is the manager that is the difference maker and the real star of the show for me.
Amadou Onana - £51.46m > Been injured and in and out of the team.
Moussa Diaby - £47.69m > Decent before they flipped him.
Ian Maatsen - £38.58m > Can't get in over Digne.
Pau Torres - £28.61m > Average.
Evann Guessand - £26.01m > Miss & sold to Palace.
Jhon Duran - £25.58m > Good bench option and sold for a profit.
Donyell Malen - £21.68m > Good player but not liked by Emery.
Tammy Abraham - £18.21m > Miss.
Cameron Archer - £14.44m > Flipped to Saints.
Jaden Philogene - £13.87m > Flipped to Ispwich.
Samuel Iling-Junior - £12.14m > Miss.
Alex Moreno - £11.70m > Miss.
Lewis Dobbin - £10.23m > PSR fudge.
Alysson - £8.67m > TBD.
Morgan Rogers - £8.15m > Great buy.
Enzo Barrenechea - £6.94m > TBD.
Loaned out.
Kosta Nedeljkovic - £6.59m > Same as above.
Andres Garcia - £6.07m > TBD.
Yasin Ozcan - £6.07m > Loaned straight out.
Axel Disasi - Loan fee: £5.20m > Miss.
Ross Barkley - £5.12m > Not bad. Not great.
Nicolo Zaniolo - Loan fee: £4.34m > Miss.
Douglas Luiz - Loan fee: £1.73m > Miss.
Joe Gauci - £1.30m > Young keeper loaned out to lower leagues.
Marco Bizot - Undisclosed > Barely played.
Youri Tielemans - Free transfer > Great signing.
Victor Lindelof - Free transfer > Crap.
Marcus Rashford - Loan transfer > Did ok for the loan.
Marco Asensio - Loan transfer > Same as above.
Jadon Sancho - Loan transfer > Miss.
Harvey Elliott - Loan transfer > Weird deal all round.
Clement Lenglet - Loan transfer > Awful.
I would say about 6 of those signings have been decent to very good - Diaby, Duran, Rogers, Tielemans, Rashford & Asensio and then the rest are ok to dreadful, with some yet to be determined.

Al, I think we are going to have to put up with him until at least Christmas in all honesty. I stopped listening to managers around the time Koeman was there, they all talk out of their arses, mate.
BlueMike, it's not just Moyes that has bought badly, the only consistent thing we have done over the last ten years is get recruitment wrong, we could go back to the summer of 10 number 10s! The only light at the end of the tunnel is that TFG have, allegedly, got the right people in the right positions behind the scenes so we can hopefully see improvement on that score as we move forward.
Time will tell, pal, I think we all want to see a more attacking team this coming season and we will hopefully address it over the summer. I do feel that too many have too high expectations and it is causing them to lose their heads a bit when things don't run smoothly. I've got more patience than most, it seems, but that doesn't mean I'm accepting how things have gone, I just think it's early days in the TFG tenure and that they will protect their investment properly. I don't want to go back to the wasted decade that FM put us through, even if he did get us our nice new home.
21 Jun 2026 00:39:03
I try to be patient, Bluepotato. It's just very difficult at 86. The only good thing about being older is that I can shoot my age at golf. As far as Everton are concerned, I was 55 when I watched us win the cup at Wembley in 1995.
My son is now about the same age I was then. Am I expected to wait until my grandson is the same age? I think that our patience is exhausted.
21 Jun 2026 09:09:15
Well, as you are aware, my patience has gone. We play the worst style of football in the league, and I defy anyone to say we don't. Constant whining, really, so give me something to be positive about, anything.
And don't give me the well we weren't involved in a relegation battle nonsense. Guys had a full season, and I'm struggling to see the difference between his and Dyche's team, and apparently we have better players.
