I've tried to stay patient with Moyes since he came back, because his first job was simple, keep us up. Fair enough, he did that. But last season was supposed to be about improving us, pushing us on, showing that we weren't just treading water anymore. And what did we get? One point more than the season before. One. If that's "improvement", then the bar is on the floor.

And then he comes out with this comment while in the US for the World Cup about not knowing whether a club like Everton can make "big huge strides", and that we should basically be aiming to match Bournemouth and Brentford. I'm sorry, but that's embarrassing. It's small time and it's the exact opposite of what this club needs, what us fans need.

What makes it worse is the history. This isn't the first time he's talked like this. When he left us the first time, he said he'd taken Everton as far as he could, and that was when we were finishing just around European places. Now he's back, and instead of talking about pushing on, he's lowering expectations even further. It's like he's already decided our ceiling before we've even kicked a ball for the new season.

I'm not asking for miracles. I'm not asking for Europe every year. I'm asking for a manager who actually believes Everton can grow again. Someone who doesn't talk like we should be grateful to be in the same bracket as clubs who were playing Championship football 5 years ago.

Moyes might keep us organised at the back. He might of kept us safe. But comments like this show exactly why he's not the man to take us any further. If he doesn't believe in the club's potential, then what's the point? We've spent years fighting fires. We don't need another manager telling us to accept our place.

For me, it's simple, ambition matters. And right now, he's showing none.

Great post. Moyes has done his job. Now let's get someone who'll take us to the next level.

Absolutely spot on, OS.

The other point, OS, is that he did not even keep our defence organised when we lost those last seven matches. They represented almost one quarter of all our league games.
