Ship Gareth Barry out asap - not only is he now a liability on the ball - constantly getting robbed of it or misdirecting passes or being too slow on it - but most importantly - how come if I, as a fan, am feeling totally pissed off at losing at the end of a (referee robbing) performance, he can within a few seconds of the whistle be wandering around laughing and joking with the opposition lads - he's obviously not that bothered that we lost is he? He's just turning up for the ride and for the big wedge of about 50k per game in the back pocket
If I'd been on that pitch at the end I'd have been finger jabbing it at Mariner the ref and giving him what for verbally - but some of our lads don't look bothered if we lose - and Barry is the main culprit
{Ed025's Note - thats a bit harsh imo latch, yes he had a stinker, but i dont think he is fit!, there is nothing wrong with being familiar with your ex team mates though mate, i would expect former everton players to be the same to be honest..
1.) I agree Ed. Gareth Barry didn't have the best of games yesterday. Buto accuse him for being over familiar with his ex team mates is over the top.
I was as disappointed as any other Blue after last night's result. A penalty which should never have been given plus two violent assaults which under another ref would have resulted in two red cards; left us chasing a game (which we did admirably in the second half) which might have been won. 11 against 9 could have swung it in our favour and the the doubters would have been crowing today instead of critising.
QPR at home next week is obviously a massive game but let's not start the attacks on RM. We're better than that. Let's leave that to the Reds who surely have more to be concerned about after the money Brenda has already wasted.

2 questions
Is it my memory or didn't gareth Barry get robbed of the ball in a very similar situation earlier in the season that cost us a vital goal too? Almost identical wasn't it?
How can Martinez have a reputation for 'attacking football' when all we do is play it backwards to the defenders all the time? We do anything but attack most of the time.
1.) The trouble with our possession style seems to be that we:
(1) just pass it around at the back waiting for an opportunity to attack and give the opposition time to form up defensively;
(2) get pressed high up the pitch by the opposition and lose possession and risk conceding goals;
(3) end up knocking aimless long balls out of defence and conceding possession;
(4) lose any urgency or intensity and don't exploit the pace we have in our forwards often enough.
But what do I know? I don't have coaching badges and I never played professional football - I'm just a biased fan who's supported Everton (and watched football at every level) for over fifty years.

Looks like we're down to the bare bones again with half the players not yet fully fit
Gareth Barry - he literally had 10-15 seconds left on the clock until half time and chose to run around with it in a dangerous spot - got dispossed and goal within 10 seconds - brilliant - anything but what he did would have seen us safely to half time
We've got a few players who seem a bit thick and lack judgement to me
The main thing though was the lack of confidence - once we went one up you could see them all thinking they should not be winning away at Spurs so they started shrinking back towards their goal - inviting a crap looking Spurs to gain confidence
Howard has to go soon - making too many mistakes now
And how come Martinez has a reputation for attacking teams when all we do is play the effing ball backwards and sideways - slowly- we just do not attack at all - how come Martinez has this reputation? It's b******* as far as I can see
Seriously reconsidering the season ticket renewal for next year - I can't stand paying about 700 quid to watch jags and distin play it backwards and forwards between them any more

Great win and job well done - but I think we are missing a bit more 'muscle' in midfield - quite a few of our players seem to get dispossed quite easily - I think we need a box to box enforcer in the style of Roy Keane
Osman Naismith pienaar all can't mix it and one or two of the others don't want to.
1.) 26 Oct 2014 20:03:19
I think we are missing a bit of pace on the left too, should get a winger in the mould of cristiano ronaldo maybe
2.) Too old Swan. Knocked off the ball all the time. Poor shot, can't dribble and heading ability zero. I wish!

We've played arsenal Chelsea Liverpool and Manu in our first 7 games - should get a bit easier now and key players will be back soon
Meanwhile we've made a decent start in the Europa whilst missing these key players so I for one am not too down
I thought we looked better than Manu in the second half and they're winning goal was a scabby mis-hit
Not sure it's fair to just keep players like Duffy sitting on the bench year in year out just in case you need him once in a blue moon if you've got 3 cb injuries at once
But look at home many conceded goals he contributes to - he's often the person who screws something up in the penalty area - he panics and just lashes his feet at the ball when he doesn't need to and it often bounces into the wrong area and we concede a goal
He's been a liability for a while now though he did a good job for a few years and like he said himself we are a club who couldn't afford better than him at the time
It does make me wonder though how much fitness vs skill is important in determining whether someone makes it as a pro footballer - I mean he really has quite limited ball skills doesn't he?
At least 45 minutes during this season?
Every player has a price - and whilst we would not want to lose lukaku - or Barkley - and maybe Barry at this time, I would say everyone else has a price and can be replaced
It depends on whether the McCarthy money would be enough - and whether its just getting swallowed - or if its being reinvested in another player we really wanted - we're reasonably well stocked in centre mid now - but we really need another top flight striker - so if McCarthy was sold to bring in someone like Bony I would not mind - lukaku plus another top rated striker would be awesome
Whatever happens I trust Martinez to know what he's doing
Well said philmc - I've seen that a couple of times lately and it's not good - in fact posting something like isn't the cleverest thing to do
Loads of people work in shops - we've all got to buy stuff and It certainly doesn't mean you're thick - and if you're going to work in a shop there can't be many better shops to work in than evertons!

Mirrallas is another one like Fellaini that thinks he's better than he is - I'm not that bothered if he goes but I guarantee you that a current champions league team doesn't come in for him
He also suffers from Grabitus when he's within 25 yards of goal and doesn't see other players in better positions
See ya Kev
Sorry but McGeady was terrible last night - everything he touched went wrong - I don't like criticising players too much but it was a standout poor performance and I actually usually like the guy - he missed an absolute sitter at one point, and lost the ball about 10 times through bad passes or just getting it robbed of him - he had a disaster game
Good performance by the team, though they had plenty of chances to be fair - they could easily beat us on another day and 6-1 over the two legs was v flattering - still great win though :)
We are still a bit selfish up front for me when someone does not pass to someone else in a better position
Garbut was fantastic though - was really impressed by him
Hodgson just looks like someone who doesn't inspire confidence.
Watch him as he sits there biting his lip in that nervy way, rubbing his hand over his chin/mouth.
He even did it the other night straight after England scored - he had a two second brief cheer/smile then he immediately sank back into his worry position and started grimacing and rubbing his mouth again nervously - he's not an inspiring leader is he?
I've been saying this for a while now about the league more or less being set in stone and rigged so its basically a 3 or 4 horse race.
sooner or later the fans of the non champs league teams are going to get fed up with this and begin to wander off
Can we remember we've played arsenal (draw) Liverpool (draw) Chelsea (bad loss) and Manu (v unlucky narrow away defeat)
Leicester draw away doesn't look that terrible given they're playing well
West brom win away good result
Crystal palace did us with three shots on target otherwise we dominated game
So bit unlucky really combined with having difficult early fixtures
Should see some better results now we have non champs league teams to play against
Expect to see us climbing table soon and fortunately because a lot of matches have been drawn or gone the right way for us, then the pack is not too far away.
COYB!
