I do hope you all get chance to hear DCL's youtube interview on High Performance. It may give us all a better perspective of who he is and the pressures of what he has gone through.

I know some will say about the money he gets and this and that but its very easy to forget they are human and have the same emotions as everyone else.

Some talk about players like they're just an object to abuse because they are frustrated or dismiss any part of them being human with an expectation that they should perform at a high level regardless of any personal circumstances like injuries, mental health or just personal pressure. However, I imagine there's plenty on here and the keyboard warriors on social media that would crumble with just a fraction of the expectation of 100's of thousands of people and pressure to deliver.

He wasn't woe me or feeling sorry for himself and if anything he came across with regrets with injuries and other social aspects and understood why people were frustrated with him.

I said this the other day on here about him but only watched the full story today. We really do need in society to have a better, more intelligent understanding of how we can affect, negatively other people, whether they are footballers or not and actually if we are more positive and less personal in our criticism, the impact can be much different.

Being critical of how someone plays, not contributing to the team or not scoring enough goals, DCL absolutely takes it on the chin and owns it. Taking aim with personal comments about him and his family is the real negative impact.

If he doesn't like it he can always get another job, he doesn't have to play football or does he like the money to much, like to see him come to work with me for a week or spend some time in the military.

10 Jun 2025 13:40:52
Empathetic as usual, skylark. Let's hope you never have to go through any kind of mental health issues!

10 Jun 2025 13:55:10
Hmm. Skylark I wonder how long you'd last if everyone around you screamed abuse at you while trying to do your job? And then after having that for an hour an half you take a look at your social media you having a load more abuse thrown at you?

How about after working all of your life from a young age, you and your family making sacrifices and getting your dream job, get told by someone who doesn't even know what you've had to go through to 'get another job'.

If you've achieved your dream, or put your life before others, then you'd understand that sacrifice is sacrifice and if you can't appreciate that and think you've got a right to abuse that person or have a lack of empathy, then I feel pity and sorry for you.

To be fair he hasn't given up like you may have done. Instead he's kept at it and tried to give his best. So fair play to him.

I hope you don't have to put anything up with that and wish you the best of health mate.

Yes they are Human BJU but they put themselves out there in the publuc eye and extremely well paid. As for your what if it was you remark. Skylark probably was ???.

10 Jun 2025 14:30:18
You have no idea what I've been through and I can tell you it's a lot worse than what DCL and most on here have ever been through.

10 Jun 2025 14:33:28
I've not seen it yet, but as someone that has struggled a bit with mental health issues recently, I totally sympathise with him.

And as BJU says, it must be brutal the amount of abuse that some players receive! Yeah the money is great but I can promise you, when you're going through the struggle money really doesn't matter.

10 Jun 2025 14:50:15
Don’t parade round in a dress with a handbag if you don’t want abuse. Sorry. I didn’t give him any and not condoning it but any walk of life - especially footballers are going to get stick and I’m sure he must have know it.
He’s been garbage for us for one reason or another - wish him well but he is there to score goals and simply doesn’t score.

10 Jun 2025 14:56:44
I wouldn't put my personal life on social media blue John, it's personal, would you like me to explain to you how my wife was killed at the age of 28 and the mental health problems I went through? No I will keep it to myself, I'm sorry if I offend you by not feeling sorry for DCL but I just can't bring myself to feel sorry for him,

10 Jun 2025 15:04:23
Maybe not skylark but, if you've been through worse, why would you put someone down when they go public with their own problems? As i said, empathetic as ever!

10 Jun 2025 15:51:55
There is a quick and easy fix - do not go on social media.

The "pressure" comes with the territory. You are no9 for a PL football team and get paid handsomely to deal with the pressure.

Not for one minute condoning personal abuse but personally speaking, it wouldn't effect me what a stranger has to say about me, especially if it was words on a screen. His poor performances on the pitch have been an occurrence long before any of this abuse started, so it just sounds like an excuse to me.

Add the fact that he brought the pressure onto himself by proclaiming he was good enough to be no9 for England. He has held himself in high regard for a while and still does clearly, regarding his want to play in a CL team.

Everyone deals with pressure in life. A lot of us will be feeling the pressure to provide for our families and put food on the table, that is real pressure. This lad will never have to worry about money or security in his life. No sympathy from me.

Footballers are like pop stars and movie stars now. They put themselves on all formats of social media, and seem quite happy to publicise themselves at every opportunity.
Does that raise envy in some supporters possibly. To watch someone who is paid huge amounts of money underperform just adds to that.
You don't have to be a rich footballer to suffer from depression. It affects all people in all walks of life, it's just some don't feel the need to advertise it on social media.
As for Skylark, well making assumptions on the lads personnel life is just doing what you are accusing supporters of doing to DCL. Perhaps you should apologize for that.

10 Jun 2025 17:31:08
Sorry no apologies from me the man is an idiot.

10 Jun 2025 18:22:45
I see it from both sides. But when our team is under performing and doing bad, it's the fans that suffer. We get depressed. We get down. I understand that it might affect certain players as well but I think it is the fans who feel it more. If a team is relegated, it's the fans that suffer. Players will be sold and go to different clubs, kiss their badge, and forget all about the previous bad times. Yet again, us fans have to suffer. So I find it hard to feel sorry for people getting paid ridiculous sums of money to do something we would all love to do. If I was rubbish at my job I'd be replaced with someone else, I wouldn't just get left sitting on a bench picking up the same wage. Most players don't give a toss about the fans anymore, should we give a toss about them?

10 Jun 2025 18:27:29
Not sure Brass meant you Skylark mate.

10 Jun 2025 18:36:41
Wowsers. Some people have the cognitive ability to consider others in an empathetic way and some others seem to think it's an opportunity to uninvited, measure their Johnson's. Disgusting as per usual.

10 Jun 2025 19:08:56
The whole issue surrounding mental health will never be overcome while there are people who equate wealth and a persons state of mind.

You can be rich and have problems with your mental health, likewise you can be poor and have problems with your mental health. Money and profession doesn't come into it, it can hit anyone at any time, wherever they are or whatever they do.

For those who just want to give the lad pelters, ask yourself one question before you have your pop at him. Would you verbally abuse or post horrible things on social media to someone who was not famous because you felt they weren't doing their job properly?

10 Jun 2025 19:42:21
DCL is a young lad who whilst being a talented enough footballer to make it in the PL is still a human. Someone’s partner, someone’s son etc. so putting it this way, how would you say it if he was stood next to you with his family present?

Let’s show some class people. They have feelings just like we do.

10 Jun 2025 19:53:02
Wow - that escalated quickly!

Each to their own.

DCL needed a carrot, not the stick in my opinion.

10 Jun 2025 20:53:27
I am betting some of the old gits on here and our area are veterans and so have certainly got the T shirt. Family at home worrying meant cracking up, mistakes wasb't an option. I care of course I care but am also a cynical git. Pressure go kick a tree or beat the crap out of a bag.

11 Jun 2025 17:57:41
I'm sorry to hear that Skylark and I won't comment on your experience, I understand that is personal to you.

However, for the wider context, I was not offended and merely trying to emphasise the point of understanding someone else's point of view, circumstances and where criticism is perfectly fine abuse isn't.

I hope that people watch what he had to say because they may also go through the same things. If he's an idiot for saying what he did, the things he went through and how he coped and got through it then I hope there's more idiots out there that do the same thing and tell their story.

Seriously I do wish you the best of health. there's no animosity on my part.
