A lot of people claiming that Beto is the worst strike we’ve ever had, which I think is unfair. He’s awful but not as bad as Niasse or Maupay for example, what about Brett Angel, or Madar, some real awful players and there will be loads I’ve missed.

Sandro Ramirez takes some beating. Woeful.
21 Jan 2026 23:38:18
I just think it's tragic that he has SO much competition. But I agree - as terrible as he's been this season, he isn't Quite as bad as Sandro was, for me.

Don't think it's a lot of people, just some. Yesterday it was me that said it and, whilst I get that there have been plenty of duds we've acquired over the years, I personally think Beto is absolute garbage. He offers nothing at all, his passing isn't great, his awareness is shocking for this level, he can't hold the ball up, his finishing is erratic. I could go on but you get the drift. In fact, the only thing he's got going for him, and seems to get him a pass from some, is that he works hard. For me, that should be a given, you can't play in the Premier league and shy away from the game.
The jury was out in his first game for us, v Doncaster in the cup I think. He scored a header but his very first shot almost went out for a throw. I've tried to give him slack but I just can't see a footballer in him at all. Hammer me all you like, this is just my opinion. Maybe the worst was a touch harsh so I'll clarify a little, he's definitely one of the worst players to pull on our shirt. Right down at the bottom with one or two more!
22 Jan 2026 10:39:49
Didn’t Sandro only cost 5m? Seriously what would you expect for that.
22 Jan 2026 14:03:11
He actually ran in behind and slotted the ball neatly away against Doncaster. Exactly how he used to score in Serie A, being fed balls through. That is also how he was scoring in his purple patch last season.
Not that I disagree with much of what you have said but we certainly don't play to the lads strengths, so it is no wonder he looks worse this season than last. I still don't think Barry is the answer either.
22 Jan 2026 14:07:39
Denis Straquarlsi can anyone remember him.
{Ed025's Note - i can BY, yet another flop mate..
22 Jan 2026 14:22:48
BN, you're right mate, not sure why I thought it was a header but it definitely was a through pass that he got on the end of. That said, it was lower league opposition and he certainly nearly put the ball out for a throw with one strike on goal!
I get the through balls have got him some goals but, for me, a decent striker should be able to cope with all aspects of scoring goals from various types of passes. The only difference for Barry is that he has potential to improve, and it could be argued that he has improved slightly, whereas Beto isn't going to get much better from what we now see. I'd like a right back, a left back and another forward personally although that is looking increasingly unlikely mate.
22 Jan 2026 14:26:13
Denis Straquarlsi, yep, legs without a head.
22 Jan 2026 15:46:38
Straq was another one who ran around a lot with out really doing anything. We’ve had a lot of those.
22 Jan 2026 17:06:37
James Beattie takes some beating.
22 Jan 2026 17:47:45
I do remember that shot you are on about tbf BP!
Spot on post though. Barry certainly improving but just doesn't strike me as the forward I would like us to have. I know forward play is a lot different these days but I still genuinely haven't seem him ping a ball - not even sure he can. The closest he got was the disallowed volley against the Barcodes!
I agree with you on incomings mate. 2 fullbacks should be the priority for me. Would change our entire team. However, can't see us doing much other than loans. Shame really, as it wouldn't break the bank to go and get two starting fullbacks and would likely make our money back if we managed to squeak into Europe, as well as being able to attract a better calibre of player in the summer.
22 Jan 2026 20:34:51
Definitely would improve our attacking impetus with quality full backs mate, couldn't agree more on that score, BN.
I'm on the fence over Europe though at this point mate. Imagine this forum if we got there and it affected our league campaign because we haven't got a big enough squad to cope? It would be carnage on here pal!
My main concern is the squad size and quality but also is it too early in the rebuild to be competing at that level with a couple of games a week? Mid-table teams always seem to suffer in the league when they get into Europe, mainly because of the two points I highlighted, squad size and quality. It also seems to highlight the better players in a team and then they want away! Maybe i'm thinking too far ahead but it is a bit of a worry with what we have at this moment in time.
{Ed025's Note - on the flip side BP if we were in Europe we would be a far more attractive proposition for better quality players mate, i do understand your fears though and a lot would depend on the strategy of the owners and if they are willing to invest, its a tough call..
22 Jan 2026 22:05:09
I agree there, ed25, I suppose it depends on the budget we have to attack Europe as well as keeping competitive in the league. Double edged sword I suppose mate. I'd love to be in European competitions, especially since we haven't had much to look forward to in recent years.
I just want us to be as prepared as possible so it doesn't have a negative effect on the club. The main thing is that I have a lot more trust in our current owners than the FM era, so maybe my fears are misplaced right now mate.
{Ed025's Note - i can certainly see where you are coming from BP, its a case of stick or twist mate and only the owners and DM will have the answers to that..

There’s only 1 Brett Angel!
