We were in contention for a top five finish before our Merseyside Derby last month, so so close, what could have been.

Can't expect to win against them when you bring a knife to a gunfight.

Some of those last minute goals and near misses seemed to drain the confidence out of our better players. Throw in a few defensive blunders and the negative tactics, and the picture changed pretty quickly. It was not long ago that some of the more vocal Moyes Out posters were reluctantly admitting he'd done well, and now we're all back with that feeling of inevitability, and rather than looking forward to next season, I'm quite pessimistic.

Only a few will be looking forward to next season if Moyes is in charge. I wouldn't trust him with the tuck shop money, never mind a transfer budget.

More grafters who can play in multiple positions then?

At the end of the day, we have improved on the last couple seasons, that's step one complete. Next season, we need to finish in a European place, that's step 2. Step 3 is the Premier League title and FA Cup.

How have we improved? We are one point better than last season and went out both cups. How is that an improvement?

One point better. Improved. We are more stable. Improved. New ground, more revenue. Improved. We are building, I think, we expect we should be up challenging for the title after one season.
