I know there are loads on here moaning about our lack of signings and slagging off the recruitment team but maybe, just maybe, we are in a position where we refuse to pay the ridiculous fees for some players. Delap is never a £50m player and I see today there’s talk of Jackson going to Villa for around £60m and this is for players Chelsea don’t even want! I’m baffled they have made a profit on Delap who they never really played!
As a poster earlier said, we have currently not lost any of our top talent and have some good additions so far.
I’m sure there will be more in the next few days. We’ve just not got to keep believing the paper talk and just see what happens. I for one am optimistic about the season ahead and genuinely feel that we will be in the mix for Europe.
COYB!

Whilst within the rules, we've still continued to make a loss every year apparently, so that Simon Jordan bloke stated. Guess we can't pay that sort of money even if we wanted. So it definitely appears we are playing transfer deadline chicken. And, to be fair, some great deals are done this way.

This is the best post I have seen on here in a long time!!

Brilliant post LT. Regardless of anymore signings, we have a really good, young, exciting squad and I can't want for tonight. I'm going to bloody enjoy myself up at Preston, and hopeful of a good win.
I'm sure the players are up for the cup even if the manager isn't.

Exactly, chaps, look at what's happened to Villa and Newcastle. It's the equivalent of us losing our 4 best players, which would be
Pickford
Branthwaite
Garner
Ndiaye
Then trying to replace them, as well as getting extras in.
We've done some very good business so far. Few more and it turns into a very tidy squad.

The issue isn't that we're refusing to pay these exorbitant fees - that bit I respect - it's that our scouts don't seem to be able to find a single player who isn't already playing in the Prem and being offered around.
Every other team seems to be scouring Europe and further afield for exciting new talent, but we seem to exclusively look at the 'big 6' and ask if any of their rejects are going, or if anyone from the Championship fancies a go.
Obviously there are exceptions to that rule, but we all know what Everton and Moyes' strategy is in the window, and is effectively attempting to pick up scraps at the last minute. I can think of 10+ quality signings done by teams 'below us', who I have no doubt we could have swayed to come to this way if we'd tried.
