It could be worse chaps, we could have Carrick as manager ?.

Agree0 Disagree0

You say that Nick, and I keep hearing that United are really bad, yet we couldn't beat them at home.

So what does that really say about us?

26 Oct 2026 11:23:47
I'm actually not sure if it's all down to Carrick or some of the big gob sulky players he is having to deal with. I mean their not exactly short on mouthing off to the press every time they lose, and blame everyone else but themselves for the mess they are in.
Wonder if Moyes would be interested in the job?

26 Oct 2026 12:31:15
Whilst I agree with what is being said in about Moyes, my concern is that if/when he goes, what top class Manager would want to come to the club in its current situation, I. e. up for sale/ no money to spend/prepared to sell our top players. (Armstrong and Garner (? ) back in the summer) .

26 Oct 2026 12:52:15
Here's the rub: with us, Nick, United are not up for sale, and Carrick is probably looking over his shoulder at plenty of would-be Manchester United bosses, mate.
Moyes can just carry on with the poor results, and nobody is breathing down his neck.

A well run club would have the replacement signed and sealed before shipping the manager off. We will not be spectacular under Moyes, but I also think we'll be well clear of relegation.

26 Oct 2026 13:04:23
No need for superstar manager someone with half a footballing brain will do start playing different players instead of same week in week out drop barry try alcaraz there if that doesn't work try george would braden Graham be any worse not a chance dibling been with us 18 months doesn't get a sniff Johnson starts most games push garner to full back play Hackney along side Armstrong.

26 Oct 2026 13:16:24
I agree TL.

26 Oct 2026 13:27:21
JB, up to this season I would have gone along with that, probably without question or caveat, mate.
Now I am with the anti-Moyes side of the argument totally; if he won't try something new and drop Barry for one thing, I just cannot see past a very serious relegation struggle.

26 Oct 2026 13:51:53
I think you're missing the fact that most managers have big egos and if you pay them enough they will come.

Already mentioned this bloke a few times - Claudio Giraldez.

He took over from the Fat Spanish waiter. Surprisingly, they were near the relegation zone, where he guided them to safety. The following season he guided them to a 7th place finish and got them into the Europa league, where he managed to reach the quarter finals but were beaten by the eventual finalists, Freiburg.

He got the Celta job due to his success with their development side. He is happy to give youth a chance and has had to do so working with such a limited side as Celta. This would suit us right now due to the amount of young talent that we have and little money we have to invest.

Has similarities to Moyes that would suit the team we have, in that he builds from defensive stability, however, where he differs, is that he is not scared to change his approach and formations to suit the players he has available or to tackle the team he faces each game, rather than sticking to the same old boring and predictable setup. He is also not afraid to utilise the entire squad and make in-game changes to affect the outcome. He is also a lot more attack minded than Moyes and has a more fluid approach to games.

A summary of his main attacking principles would be:

1. Building from the back to create passing options.

2. Using width to stretch the opposition's defensive structure.

3. Positioning midfielders to connect the defensive and attacking lines.

4. Moving players into different spaces to create passing lanes.

5. Advancing the ball quickly when an opening appears.

6. Taking calculated risks to progress through pressure.

Defensively:

A. Pressing high.

B. Closing passing lanes and forcing rushed decisions.

C. Compressing space around the ball.

D. Using midfielders and forwards to trigger pressure collectively.

E. Adjusting the height of the defensive block to the opposition and available players.

Perhaps what is most likeable about him is that he is not afraid to adapt his approach depending on the opposition. He is not stubborn and set in his ways, which ordinarily results in managers getting a hiding by the better sides. Instead, he realises his sides limitations and adapts his formations, his shape and tactical approach when the big boys come to town.

I watched Celta do a number on Real Madrid last season and it was not a smash and grab job. They were disciplined, yet measured and absolutely deserved their 2-0 victory. They defended with a plan, rather than pressed indiscriminately.

Tactical identity - Proactive and adaptable

Possession - Build, progress and create advantages

Attacking - Width, movement and flexible positioning

Pressing - Coordinated pressure, adjusted to circumstances

Defending - Can alternate between a higher press and a compact, deeper block

Youth - Genuine pathway from academy to first team

Squad management - Trust, respect and active competition

Team selection - Match-specific adjustments and rotation

Training - High standards, with emphasis on quality

Long-term planning - Build a recognisable club identity

Celta are currently sat in 9th with 2 wins, 6 draws and 2 losses. They have just beaten Celtic at Parkhead in the Europa league.

I think he would be a great appointment for us due to the fact he would be able to lean on the strengths this side already has (or had) with it's defensive ability, whilst incorporating a more tactful and attacking approach.

Not only that, he would 100% start utilising the young talent we have in this squad and sift out the deadwood that has offered us nothing for years.

Managerial career

edit
In 2015, while still a player, Giráldez was also named manager of Porriño Industrial's Juvenil squad. In the following year, he joined Celta's structure, and was a manager of their Cadete B, Cadete A and Juvenil B squads.[6]

On 27 June 2019, Giráldez was named in charge of Gran Peña, Celta's farm team, [7] and also remained manager of their Juvenil B team. On 10 August 2021, he was appointed manager of the Juvenil División de Honor squad.[8]

On 2 July 2022, Giráldez replaced Onésimo Sánchez at the helm of Celta's B-team;[9] the club officially announced his new role ten days later.[10] In his first season in charge of the B's, he led them to the play-offs, losing in the semi-finals to eventual winners Eldense.

On 12 March 2024, Giráldez was named manager of Celta's first team, replacing Rafael Benítez.[11] His first professional match in charge occurred five days later, as his side won 2–1 at Sevilla.[12].
