I see Troy Parrott now being linked with us this morning, think this signing would see our team ‘flying’ up the league table in no time ?.

As long as we sign Troy Parrott and not Troy Hawke, although would love to see him as an official greeter at Hill Dickinson.

We'll end up signing John Parrott by an accident.

I think if we sign him, we'll have 'flapped' it once again, and confirmed how caw-ful our striker recruitment team is.

I'm sure he's a decent player, but underwhelmed at every level he played at in England and is only thriving in a league Jozy Altidore and Vincent Janssen were prolific. I know there's exceptions to that rule, and too easy to just dismiss the Eredivisie outright, but if we're hoping to keep hold of our best players, whoever we get up top HAS to be proven quality.

If we get him people will just say he's crap, he's crap' he's crap squawk!

Plenty of other strikers I would rather go after but I think you have been quite harsh on Parrot there.

His spells in the lower English leagues, arguably some of the most physically challenging leagues in the world, were whilst he was a teenager. He wasn't fortunate to blessed with the physical attributes to cope in those leagues whilst he was earning his trade.

His first loan at Millwall he got very unlucky with 2 serious injuries and was recalled in the Jan before going on loan to Ipswich where he was behind our best strikers twin brother Will and Alan Judge.

The following season - 10 goals and 7 assists for MK Dons at 19 isn't too bad.

Fell off when stepping up to the Champ with Preston, only managing 3 for the season but Ched Evans was their starting striker and Parrot was fighting it out for minutes with Liam Delap who only got 1 that season and was one of the most sought after strikers in the league this summer before moving to Chelsea.

He then moved over to Holland and hasn't stopped scoring since. He scored 17 goals for a side that got relegated and then moved to AZ where he has a better record than 1 in 2 for them in the league and in Europe.

Not to mention his recent exploits for the Irish National Side, as recently as this week where he secured them qualification to the World Cup on his own, scoring a brace against Portugal and a hat-trick against Hungary.

The lad has good technique and his movement brilliant. I am sure that Seamus will have his share of input on the move and he doesn't strike me as the sort to keep quiet if he has any concerns that the lad wouldn't be able to hack it at PL level.

I would rather have him than Beto and Barry because he is a natural and instinctive goal scorer but I would want him battling it out with a striker that has been contributing to goals consistently in a better league like a Burkardt, Demirovic, Embolo or Castellanos,

I was joking BN read it again. I have no idea if this lad would improve us or not. Seen many do well in the Championship only to disappear in the Prem. Maybe he would buck the trend, who knows.

That's all very valid, tbf, BlueNose. I'm sure he is a decent player, and no doubt he would be an upgrade on B&B up top, but i still stand by the point that whoever we get Needs to be quality. We can't take another risk on someone who Might work out, but there is mixed evidence on whether they would - plus, he was very highly rated at Tottenham, but they still chose to let him go for pretty cheap. Obviously mistakes can be made, but I trust their judgement of strikers more than I trust our own scouts, and the story of a player who struggles in England, has success abroad, then struggles back in England again is a bit too familiar (Lookman, Sancho, Nelson etc. ) .

Either way, I wouldn't be disappointed if we got him (depending on price) , but i would be worried if he's the only striker we get, and if he got fewer than 10 goals between Jan and the end of the season, I think we might not be seeing Ndiaye or Grealish play for us next season, either.
