Burnley's claim for compensation seems to rest on their claim that the delay in the league's move against Everton should have been dealt with sooner .
If that is the essence of their claim, then surely, their claim is against the premier League and not against Everton.
Please could one of the Ed's clarify if this is a correct interpretation.

''The basis of any claim for damages dates back to season 2021-22, when Burnley finished 17th on 35 points and were relegated from the Premier League 4 points behind The Toffees, who finished 16th.

Burnley claim that Everton's initial 10-point deduction (subsequently reduced on appeal to a 6-point deduction) should have rightly been applied in that season, and not deferred to the following season. In which case, it would have pushed Everton down into the relation zone on 33 points, thus allowing Burnley to have stayed in the Premier League… with what would have been massive consequences to The Toffees. ''

The subsequent 2-point deduction also levied in 2022-23 would have seen Everton still stay up on goal difference in a season when Leicester, Leeds and Southampton were all relegated. Those three clubs, as well as Nottingham Forest, dropped their compensation claims upon the reduced penalty.

Quite how much, if any, compensation Burnley would be entitled to remains rooted in legal arguments between the two clubs and could take some time to fathom out given that there has been no precedent in the Premier League, beyond the somewhat different case when Sheffield Utd sued West Ham Utd for using players deemed later to be illegal when third-party ownership issues came to light.

Justice won’t win out here. It’s a game between two sets of lawyers. Best lawyer wins. That’s why you hear more about the Kardashian’s than OJ.

Didn’t they settle out of court (WHam and Sheff) for £20m or something? Wouldn’t be surprised if we did something similar.

Just hold out because PL clubs can't sue each other. Wait out over the summer and it will sort it self out.

There is no way Burnley can make a claim against Everton - if it does happen then it’s free market for any other club in the league to challenge the likes of Man City, Chelsea, Bournemouth etc in light of their spending giving them an advantage - the league then becomes a laughing stock and the premier league brand is ruined.

Burnley if did have a case would have to challenge the league and not the club as all clubs are governed by the premier league and it’s them who are ultimately responsible for how rules and punishments are governed.

Ultimately it just appears to be sour grapes on the part of Burnley and can’t see it going anywhere without having massive consequences for the premier league as a whole.

{Ed025's Note - i hope you are right Dan mate..
