Let's say DCL leaves would it be worth getting Vardy in for a season as a back up striker depending on wages etc just so it frees up money elsewhere.
21 May 2025 10:42:57
No not at all.
21 May 2025 10:53:37
We have Beto as a back up striker.
21 May 2025 11:34:40
If we were going for aged players on big wages and no transfer fee, I would rather take Thomas Muller over Vardy. Still fit as a butchers dog and a clever player that would sit in that 10 position wonderfully.

Why would we have Beto as a backup striker?
He’s improving all the time, works hard every game, wants to be with us and can score goals.
Had one of his best games for us the other day. He’s not the finished article but is improving under Moyes. Would definitely have him as our starting striker next season.
With some decent service, good pre season and a run of games in confident he’ll get us 15+ goals a season.
Going to be a tricky transfer window having to replace so many players, getting a proven striker that will get 15+ goals a season would cost an awful lot and that money this window would be better spent elsewhere in the squad.

We will never agree mate opinions eh you rate him I don’t, best leave it for Davey see what he thinks.
21 May 2025 13:01:25
Am with you Ginger Dan, said same all along about Beto.
Bigger areas of concern than Beto for now.
21 May 2025 13:02:37
Ideally you want two strikers pushing for a starting spot or, God forbid, playing two up top. Beto has proven he can be effective, and should improve further and benefit from a better no10 than Doucoure and a better right winger than Harrison feeding him. We should always be looking to improve though, so if we can sign someone with the potential to be better than Beto, so be it.

It probably was one of his better games but, after seeing the fans lining the streets and the atmosphere in the ground, if a player couldn't get himself up for that match then they are in the wrong profession.
At 26 or 27, Beto isn't going to improve a great deal above his current level so not too sure why some fans are expecting more from him next season? He definitely isn't going to improve his on field intelligence, which isn't great and showcased with not holding the line twice for those chalked off goals.
Vardy is a definite no, we need to build for the future rather than a quick fix, not that Vardy would prove to be any type of fix for us. We definitely need another forward, more complete than what we've got, to lead the line next season. I'd rather we get what we can for beto while his stock is higher than it's ever been but if he has to come off the bench in games next year then so be it. He's certainly not good enough to get us where we want to be so I'd rather we move him on. Whatever happens, this beto debate will run and run throughout the summer it seems.

Vardy and Muller - what’s the point - need to build a team not sign players who need replacing the next season and no sell on.
In terms of Beto - 2 strikers good enough - need one more and can share role - he’s definitely improving which is unheard of in our team recent times!
21 May 2025 15:38:28
Get that there are several fans that don’t like Beto and would happily move him on.
However who realistically do we think we can replace him with?
Any decent striker will command a significant fee and will have a host of clubs interested in them.
There’s also no guarantee any player from abroad will adapt to the league straight away - few rarely do.
There are loads of names being mentioned by fans but not one of them is guaranteed to get 15+ goals per season.
With a massive summer of recruitment ahead of us genuinely don’t feel the striker position is one we pressingly need to address - particularly as will be a massive chunk of any budget we have.
Beto is settling in to the league and has managed 8 goals in the equivalent of 16 games.
Will think he’ll improve next season with a decent pre season and more coaching - can already see improvement in his game under Moyes. He’s got a willing attitude and grafts all game, hasn’t let the criticism he’s received affect his attitude.
Hopefully next season we’ll also have some decent players to provide him with assists - he’s been living off scraps this season with the likes of doucore and Harrison and with McNeil missing half of the season.
He’s not perfect by any means, but he’s definitely our best striker at the club and replacing him won’t be cheap and no guarantee any replacement would be better.

Careful Dan - that’s a sensible post - we are not used to that on here.
21 May 2025 16:46:12
I read today the DCL wants a new deal. Paper talk I know but I’m not as convinced as I was that he will be gone in the summer.
21 May 2025 17:40:03
How about the perspective of not seeing getting a striker in as a replacement but competition or improvement.
What’s to say that Beto doesn’t snap his knee in August/ September. Would the striker position not be pressing then?
21 May 2025 17:56:53
BN - fair point, competition is healthy totally get that and if we can get someone decent in for decent money makes sense - however we have fans calling for us to get rid of Beto and bring someone else in - which leaves us in the same situation if that new striker gets injured.
All for getting competition in but think this window we can’t be looking at moving Beto on and replacing him with potentially 2 strikers as we need competition.
There are several areas I feel are more pressing:
Rightback - we don’t appear to have a starting one in the squad - Coleman can’t do it and Patterson doesn’t appear to be up to it. O’Brian has done well there but imagine he’ll be back as a centreback next season.
Leftback - only mykolenko, no cover in squad.
Goalkeeper - we’ve let 2 go and no longer have a decent back up to Pickford. An injury to him and we’re in big trouble.
No 10 - don’t appear to have one. Will be interesting to see if Alcaraz signed (hope so) . Unsure what position is best for Ndiaye.
Defensive midfielder - Mangala on loan and injured. Looking unlikely Gueye will stay - no one currently at club shown can step into that role.
Winger - Harrison and Lindstrom both on loan and neither appear to be the answer.
Personally think some of the above areas need addressing before we spend a large chunk of money to replace Beto, who in my opinion definitely doesn’t need replacing.
Will be an interesting window as nearly every area of the pitch we need reinforcements and there is not going to be an unlimited pot of money to do this.
Also replacing so many players can unbalance the squad.
Hopefully the recruitment team get it right.

More than several fans dan, not just in this forum but on others too, some just don't rate him as highly as you seem to do mate.
We need another striker as it stands, possibly two if, as expected, dcl leaves at the end of his contract. Having just beto as the main striker could cause us many issues. For a start, as BN points out, if he gets injured then we will be left very short up top.
I can't prescribe to the 'he will only get better with better players and support around him' as his touch and game intelligence will not improve too much at his age, it's not as if he's a raw 21 year old with potential. He is practically the finished article, or at least he has reached the apex of his ability.
I don't know who we should bring in to be honest but that's not our job as fans. Our recruitment department has been given an overhaul so we have little choice but to trust them and the process and let's see who they bring in. If we get an offer of 30m from Leeds or the likes, then it would be silly not to take it. Just my opinion on it, I'd rather take 30m than let him go for half what we paid further down the line.

Why would he want to stay with us after the abuse and threats his wife got. Morons (every fan base has them) .
