I wouldn't see it as bad business personally. Shown signs of being a good player. Even if he's average, he'd still have a decent sell on value.

If it's a loan with an obligation to buy, then I can totally understand that, but 30-40 million for a striker who hasn't proved it at Chelsea is a mystery. Wonder who authorises these deals, and whether we have also got any scouts at this World Cup.

He's an improvement, yes, but only slightly. If we sell Barry and buy Delap, I think the overall difference will be around 3 extra goals scored. I think there's better out there.

Doesn't really matter who we get in apart from the very best who we can't afford with Moyes' tactics of boot the ball to a single striker. If Delap can trap and control the ball better than Barry, he will be an improvement, but I can't think of anyone, even Doris the tea lady, who is worse than Barry.

If he had proved himself a top striker at Chelsea, we wouldn't be buying him for 80m, let alone 30-40.

Spot on, mate. We're not in the position to buy a finished article, 20 goal a season striker. We know Beto and Barry aren't good enough. Delap could be, despite what some on here think they 'know'.

I 'know' he is not better than one of the 'B's'. I maintain that Beto would have scored a few from the chances Chelsea created for Delap.

We can speculate all day, I suppose. We won't know whether Delap can be a success unless we sign him. Risk attached to any signing.
