Save your money Everton!
Don’t buy anyone in this January window
When we get our full squad back up and running we don’t need anyone in this window.
Keep Armstrong, Branthwaite returning shortly, lads returning from Africa, McNeil now showing definite signs of getting back to his best, Patterson showing vast improvements, Adam Aznou improving, Coleman recovering from injury. Above all Barry seems to be showing definite improvements, all this along with more minute for Dibling coming on from the bench, this should help his development and confidence
Save the money for the summer window.

I’d still take a decent RB who can attack, put in a cross and chip in with the occasional belter of a goal…
Think Coleman is too fragile and would be surprised if he makes it through 90 mins between now and end of season. Cracking player and servant to the club but should have called it time at the end of last season.
19 Jan 2026 09:55:51
Wow all that from one game.
19 Jan 2026 10:12:55
Spot on BR. It amazes me how one decent game can wipe out multiple seasons-worth of ineptitude. Both full-backs need replacing if we want to be serious in the league.
19 Jan 2026 11:43:10
McNeil is not showing he’s back to his best - was amazed he was given another 90 minutes.
Whilst he helped with the shot that ultimately led to Barry scoring thought he was poor majority of game. Most of the time sideways passing or going backwards.
The one time he did make a positive run his shot was terrible and going wide but did lead to Martinez blundering for Barry to score.
Would definitely not be getting carried away thinking McNeil back to his best based on yesterdays performance.
{Ed025's Note - im not his biggest fan either Dan but yesterday i thought he put in a good shift mate, he was more involved and certainly played his part in what was a very good victory..

Some on this forum just like the idea of buying players after players and when they don’t work out slag them off, they type in a potential signing name in Google, see a videos of extracts of their good performances and then come out with a so called expert opinion, sorry it doesn’t work that way,
If we are safe from relegation then it’s my opinion we don’t need to panic buy in the January window, leave that for the clubs in trouble or like I have said previously, one of our earmarked targets becomes available to improve the team, in other words better than we have got in that problem position
My opinion is not based on one game, far from it, if you read my post correctly, it’s about improvements overall, the return of players from injuries, individuals showing improvements in form, confidence, match fitness
Save your money in January sales Everton.

Defo need recruits we can’t keep playing several second string players even at full strength we need new faces, as for Seamus been brilliant for us and a true true Blue, but needs to hang up his boots and move into coaching.
19 Jan 2026 12:40:59
I just personally hope we don’t panic buy in this January, previously we have been in the lower half of the table and needed to buy to help and secure our safety and avoid relegation, we are not in that situation this time, anyway a new player can take time before they have settled in and before you know it the season has finished, much much better to buy the pin pointed targets early in the window and get a proper preseason training and game time before the new season starts.
19 Jan 2026 12:43:08
Guernsey those second string players just helped to beat Aston Villa,
19 Jan 2026 13:20:35
When have we panic bought in January to avoid relegation? If anything we have let more go than what has come in like Gordon.
2020 - Branthwaite from Carlisle and played in the 23's.
2021 - Josh King.
2022 - Myko to replace Digne. Patterson as a backup to Seamus. Alli, who was still seen as a decent player in a deal that barely cost us anything. El Ghazi and Van De Beek loans.
2023 - Nothing.
2024 - Nothing.
2025 - Alcaraz.
A player coming in Jan could also hit the ground running and offer a lot to an area of the team that is weak. They would also have 3 months to get used to the league, teammates and city and pinpoint areas for improvement. Then they would have a full pre-season to be raring to go for the new season.
Coleman, Stones, Donovan, Jelavic all proved to be great January additions.
If there is a player that is available, improves us and is not overpriced then it would make sense to get them in. What difference or advantage does it make getting that same player in nearly half a year later.
{Ed025's Note - some great information there BN and some really good points mate.... cheers
19 Jan 2026 13:35:14
Ginger, I never said back to his best, I said “now showing signs of getting back to his best”.
19 Jan 2026 15:08:29
No worries Ed, pleasure mate.
I totally understand avoiding doing too much business in Jan when it comes to top players in, as what team is going to want to let them go with half a season left and little time to find a replacement. I do think with positions like full-back though, it makes things a little less complicated.
If we can get one in, I think it would do wonders for the team and especially freeing up Ndiaye. I would personally try and get one for both sides but under no illusions that that is a pipe dream.
Credit to Patterson, he played well yesterday but I think that because we have been so used to having a CB at RB, that offers nothing going forward, that things may be being exaggerated a bit. We have seen enough of him in a Blue shirt now to know what we are getting. He isn't of the same level of player as the likes of Ndiaye, KDH, Grealish and Jimmy. The aim should be to get that level of player throughout the side and RB is a position where you don't have to break the bank to get that. I think some may be forgetting his abysmal injury record as well. He has nearly had as many injuries with us as appearances.
19 Jan 2026 15:09:09
Blue nose, I said, I hope we don’t just panick buy in January, we did try in previous seasons try like most clubs but without success for whatever reasons, anyway they are my personal opinions not yours thank god, not sure why you go to such great lengths to try and prove a point against my views on the current situation, everyone on this forum knows your the next Manager of Everton in waiting
Anyway let’s see what Mr Moyes and co do in this January, Everton haven’t got a massive budget unlike other clubs so I just hope they spend their money wisely which I am sure they will under the new owners.
19 Jan 2026 15:50:51
If we identify a player that improves the team, and a deal can be done in this window, then it makes sense to bring them in rather than wait until the summer.
We have had a bad month with injuries, suspensions and the ridiculously scheduled international tournament. Yesterday we played very well and took 3 points but the bench was very thin on the ground. That needs addressing regardless of what month we are in. Any player that improves this squad is more than welcome before the end of the month.
BN, great post that points out there hasn't been a great deal of panic buys in recent January Windows ??.
19 Jan 2026 16:33:07
Historically the winter windows show otherwise Uran.
Great lengths? On a couple of occasions I have disagreed with the posts you have shared and simply respond with factual information. As much as you or anybody is entitled to share their opinions, I am equally entitled to agree/disagree with it.
You do realise the purpose of a forum is to garner engagement from members and spark conversation or debate don't you? Everybody posts opinions and I imagine full expects responses, whether in agreement or the contrary. It only seems to be yourself that gets butthurt by it.
Yes, fingers crossed that Moyes pulls another rabbit out of the hat Uran. I think 1 or 2 new faces could really inject some life into the squad to give us a different dimension and help us get to the end of the season in the healthiest position possible.
As long as they aren't panic buys, I haven't got a problem with us buying in Jan BP. You only have to look at Newcastle's window a few seasons ago when they got Dan Burn, Bruno Guimaraes and Trippier. All 3 were very important players in their squad getting into the CL and 2 are still some of the first names on the team sheet 4 years later. Trippier and Burn both cost under 15m each - there are certainly clever deals to be done that can improve teams in Jan. I am personally hoping that these resurfacing links to Sanchez are accurate mate.
19 Jan 2026 16:40:47
I wish people read my post correctly before commenting I did say if any player comes available that is on the clubs wish list for next season then if they are affordable in this window then yes go for them, but most clubs will inflate the. Value of the players with the knowledge that the certain clubs could be desperate either to avoid relegation or qualify for Europe, the same player would probably be cheaper in the summer window
Everyone knows we need two specialised full backs and a proven striker but the chances of getting 2 special-ist full backs would be near impossible, probably more chance getting a proven striker
Ye I agree the bench has been thin of players but I shouldn’t be shortly when all of our players are back fit and returning from Africa.
19 Jan 2026 18:01:31
People do realise that we could still have injuries and bans don't they?
19 Jan 2026 20:52:27
Well that goes for any team and we have definitely already had our first share them, for me we are not far away from a really good squad, two full backs a proven striker, maybe another wide player if Dibling come on as expected.
19 Jan 2026 22:19:19
So carry on with two keepers on the bench?
19 Jan 2026 23:08:24
Even so Uran - based on yesterday’s game wouldn’t say he’s showing signs of getting back to his best.
He’s far too pedestrian and negative in his play, would rather play the ball sideways or backwards or just slow play down all together.
In the whole game he made one decent positive run forward and took a shot (all be it a poor shot) which inadvertently led to us scoring. I want more from our wide players.
If the right player is available at the right price this window then the club should surely sign them up.
Its great we’ve got players coming back from injury, suspension and afcon but we still have a very small squad, so additions are required but have to be done sensibly.
20 Jan 2026 15:01:12
I agree with your comments Ginger, it’s been a mystery to me why McNeil’s form had dropped off so badly, not sure why, ok he was out with an injury but every player goes that way at some time, we all know that confidence plays a big part in all top players maybe his confidence is very low hence his safety first tactics but I could definitely see signs of him improving and he is also looking a bit stronger a fitter plus he was up against a top players, hopefully for him and Everton he will get back to the levels of last season shortly, last season apparently he was one of the first the club, just wish him well to be honest.
20 Jan 2026 15:14:15
BMD That’s manager’s decision to put two keepers on the bench, it’s not the first this has happened but when we get the players back from Africa along with players returning from Injury the bench will be looking very strong, plus although the current squad situation over the last 3/4 weeks has been ideal at least it’s provided opportunities and game time for the likes of Patterson, McNeil, Rohl, Armstrong, Dibling and for O’Brien to play in his natural position alongside Tarkowski, all these players have gained value game time and I must say have performed exceptionally well and will give them the confidence to do a great job when coming on from the bench.
So the injuries players on international duty has apparently worked in the favour for everyone and good luck to them they have done themselves proud.
