Think a problem we have in signing players is the highest finish in the league in past 10yrs is 8th, 8/9 years ago. Footballers are young men and most those we're linked with would've been in their teens. We've not been an attractive football option compared to many other clubs in their eyes.
Us fans see it differently of course as we'd all jump at the chance.
We need to remember that when thinking the club 'should just sign them'.
Do they want to sign?
We do have the new stadium and better prospect going forward but no Europe for a loooong time impacts attracting players for sure.

So, how did Sunderland sign some decent players before a ball was kicked last season? Got to be down to what cash we offer or the manager or what, I don't know.

Players play for money. If you offer them enough, then they will come, take the money and leave the club in the s***.
Spurs are a good example, the club are throwing money at players to get them to come to the club. Not because they have Champions League football (which is another fallacy) , but because they offer the biggest wage packet.
Even as fans, we talk about oh it's only 40/50m, yet that's more than all the supporters at a game put together would see in a lifetime.
Liverpool looking to spend 120m on one player. Just think about that for a minute.
We now sit and watch millionaires play football, owners who are billionaires and supporters who come from all over the world.
Keep the gravy train rolling boys!
