Castelanos from West Ham on our radar now.
02 Jul 2026 15:09:10
I'm all for that. Proper nuisance.
02 Jul 2026 17:52:41
Want a goalscorer fed up with grafters as our No9.
{Ed025's Note - me too mate..
02 Jul 2026 16:00:41
Going to be interesting who we actually recruit GB. Hackney is a good start, young and ambitious. Let's hope the he does not sit on the bench for a season. Let's get the right-back and striker sorted out, those positions are key to next season.
Interesting who is actually driving our recruitment. Moyes always indicated that he was the main person but I am not sure anymore. If we continue to recruit players like Hackney I will have my doubts that Moyes actually has the clout he thinks that he has.
We have needed a good recruitment team for years, one that builds for the future as well as the existing season and not at the whim of whoever the manager is. Let's hope we have one now.
Ed025 do you know who the recruitment team is, or maybe someone else on here knows? I know the we recruited someone from Leeds!
{Ed025's Note - i dont sorry Mike..
02 Jul 2026 18:27:21
It's a good point, Mike. Managers come and go and we could be left with a right mess like before if we allow them to have the players they want. It's a bit short sighted.
But, if we have a recruitment team who can balance the needs of the manager with the long term plan of the club, then yes, that would be the ideal for me.
02 Jul 2026 18:29:52
Don't think this lad will sit on the bench, he is quality.
02 Jul 2026 18:40:09
With you on that, Mike, mate.
02 Jul 2026 18:59:56
There isn't many decent strikers about at the min. I wish Everton could be more productive in the transfers like Palace. I would be over the moon if we could find players like they do, like Sarr, always liked him and maybe a 40 million offer last season might have got him instead of Barry.
Now it's too late as he will be a Man Utd player next season. We miss the boat again. We need to have a bit of balls and move for players early, instead we always wait to last second and get the players no1 else wants.
02 Jul 2026 19:22:21
We have Ndiaye, KDH, just signed Hackney, with more to come. There have been no outgoings or incomings at Man U.
02 Jul 2026 19:32:47
We need a good striker, without that we mid table again. Stop buying bums no1 has ever heard of, and buy someone who has proven themselves at the top level. 30 million Barry cost, we need to at least try get good strikers. We could have made a bid for Sarr, if Utd go 40 we should go 50 and make Utd pay over the odds, then identify another player and go for them.
If Brighton, Bournemouth, Palace can find these guys then we should be able to as well, and if them teams like that get a good player we should try get them instead of waiting until the bigger clubs gobble them up. We need to move faster.
02 Jul 2026 19:45:40
We signed Barry thinking he would be a success. Hasn't worked out of course. Which team has a 100% success rate with transfers?
{Ed025's Note - nobody i would say JB, but if you look at our centre forwards since Lukaku...Gypsies, Tramps and thieves comes to mind mate..
02 Jul 2026 20:53:05
I saw Barry play for Villarreal a few times before we were linked with him and he was absolute s****. The question is, if I could see it, why couldn't Moyes and co. What really annoys me is that we could've had Franculino Dju for half the price. The problem with Dju is that he's not your stereotypical Moyes lamp post of a striker.
02 Jul 2026 20:04:50
I'm not defending our recruitment team for a moment, Ed. I would say that last summer our owners dipped into their pockets with a view to improving the squad. They've since moved to improve the team that identifies new players, let's hope that means more hits than misses in the future.
{Ed025's Note - yeah JB it has to improve mate, hopefully TFG has this in hand and things will improve mate..
02 Jul 2026 20:15:39
A 30% success would be better than o.You are right ed only lukaku was a success that's because we knew what we were buying a proven goal scorer. We buy bums year in year out and nearly always on the last day of the transfer market. We need to at least try and get someone decent not just buy them and hope they turn good.Buy the players already at Brighton palace Bournemouth Forrest etc before the bigger clubs gobble clubs that would be my strategy
{Ed025's Note - i would love us to buy a statement centre forward Dino, even if we dont get loads in mate....maybe the next Bob Latchford ..
02 Jul 2026 21:23:35
Sarr won't be going to United. He will be all but 29 by the time the winter window shuts, and they have Mbuemo and Diallo already for that wide spot.
Not sure why you are saying we should have got him instead of Barry, as they both play different positions. Dibling maybe.
You are right about one thing, though. Very good player and would be very useful for us. We missed the boat when he was at Watford, though. 40m + for a 28/29 year old doesn't make sense for us, though, unless they are fetching 20+ goal involvements like a Bowen.
02 Jul 2026 21:36:52
Sarr can play up front in the middle or out wide, nice and versatile. I know Barry hasn't a clue where he is on the pitch, but he plays up top in the middle. I think he will end up at Utd, just a pity we couldn't have shown a bit of ambition and got in there first.
Clown after clown we have signed and it needs to stop. Our main priority should be a good striker, rest will fall into place if we get one.
02 Jul 2026 21:31:31
Most underrated English centre forward ever Ed. I remember that the southern press didn't want him and couldn't wait to criticise. Bit like they are with Pickford now.
{Ed025's Note - he was my hero when i was younger Shropshire, he had everything mate..
02 Jul 2026 23:02:55
I remember Ed. I didn't miss a game home or away for 20 years during that period.
The 30 goals in 77-78 and a forward line of Thomas, McKenzie and Latchford. Happy times. Sadly we won't see the like again.
{Ed025's Note - i got my first season ticket then Shropshire in the main stand, my life revolved around match days on a Saturday mate, halcyon days indeed..
03 Jul 2026 10:50:41
Big Bob was a natural goalscorer, didn't run around like a headless chicken and was always in the box when the ball came in. Brilliant striker.
{Ed025's Note - absolutely BMD..
