If we have solidified seventh position and have no chance of getting to sixth when we play Watford at home in our next to last game of the season it would be a great gesture to play the whole of the U21 team. They have done a magnificent job this year and it would be great for those players who will never play for the Everton first team to be able to tell their kids and grandchildren that they played once for the Everton first team. Also make Unsworth manager for the day. Nothing to lose and plenty to gain,
Mike.

Might just tip Watford fans over the edge if we played our reserves, especially with no trains back that night after the match.

{Ed002's Note - A nice big fine for Everton to play as well.}

2.) 28 Apr 2017 08:07:52
I'm sure Rom would be happy missing opportunities when going for the golden boot!
I think you have really missed the professional responsibility of the club.

3.) 28 Apr 2017 03:46:27
Worth the fine as far as I am concerned Ed. Hopefully we could play a few of the U21 team members without incurring a fine or pissing off the Watford fans.

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with the fans it is to do with the FA rules Mike.}

4.) 28 Apr 2017 14:36:56
I understand the FA rules and this will not happen but if it was possible wakka you would put Rom who will probably leave for a "better" club ahead of kids most of whom came through our academy and have given their all for the U21's and love and breath our club- Really? Good luck to Lukaku but my money is on the kids and hopefully some of them will be stars and play for us not some mega rich club.
For the record Rooney can go to China for all I care, don't want him near our club, if he had given us a few years more then that might be a different story but he couldn't wait to leave us. Once a blue always a blue my backside.

Just back home from a cruise which ended up in Barcelona. We visited Camp Nou which is a great experience, what a stadium. A lot of positives, no running track, seats close to pitch, no obstructive views, bowl stadium. I was not there on a game day unfortunately but could imagine that the atmosphere would be electric.
Would not like to be on the upper tier however, too far from the pitch, however the capacity is nearly 100,000 so not needed in our new stadium. Also the only cover is over the main stand.
Would be great if Everton's new stadium was build in a similar manner but with cover over all sides. Oval shape with a capacity of say 55,000 and then you could expand upwards providing that the base and roof were built initially in such a way that the stadium could be expanded in the future if the demand warranted.

Well if Koeman goes to Barcelona we know Luis Enrique is available. What a match that was, unbelievable what a team can do when they have passion along with great players.

We do not have players in that class we have a long way to get anywhere near them. There is no proof that he could manage at Everton's level. Just being honest about it.

2.) 09 Mar 2017 19:34:26
Yes they were very good. However, one of those penalties awarded was to say the least totally wrong and the other dubious.

3.) 10 Mar 2017 14:20:24
My post was "tongue in cheek" Milo. I don't expect Koeman to go and would be very surprised if Enrique came to us. Agree about the penalties but regardless of that to score three goals in the final few minutes is pretty remarkable.

Well we got outplayed today by a better team. Having said that I don't understand playing Barry who is slow and past it. Two of Spurs goals were due to defensive errors. We need to recruit defenders in the summer not a past it ex-Evertonian.

BlueMike76

1.) 05 Mar 2017 15:55:52
Totally agree about Barry, we play too deep and narrow with him on the field and our game slows right down, with better, younger and more mobile players on the bench he should never be starting a game now days. Been brilliant for us but time to move forward.
Bad mistakes made in the game and caught sleeping too often. I like FM but don't see a future for him, can see us bringing in at least 2 CB in the summer.

2.) 05 Mar 2017 18:03:03
Yes I agree and it shows we are still a long way off the top 4 but we are improving I feel.
We need defenders also more forwards to help Rom, Barclay is not a number 10 as he does not score enough, so plenty of work to be done but we are going the right way.

3.) 05 Mar 2017 18:48:57
Have to agree with all the above posts. We are getting nearer to be a good side, last season we would have crumbled, to still be in the game with 10 mins to go show how errors made the difference. barry needs to be a defensive sub when we are leading and seeing game out. Understand the selection without recognized winger.

According to Unsworth, Matthew Pennington gave one of the best displays he has seen from any player at the U21 age against Arsenal. Now Pennington is 22 and I know there is a big step up from U21 to the first team but has anyone seen him play and is he nearly ready?

1.) 07 Feb 2017 19:02:20
Only just back after a long injury lay off.

2.) 07 Feb 2017 21:31:09
Yes I know, however when he is fully fit is he good enough for the first team squad?

3.) 07 Feb 2017 23:49:32
He has played first team last season. Didn't do anything wrong in the couple of games he played. Even Koeman wants him fit and pushing the first team, that's how highly he is rated.

4.) 08 Feb 2017 02:13:43
Thanks dentielad, we could do with him in the first team squad. Would like to see him given a chance this season,
Mike.

5.) 09 Feb 2017 00:02:47
Thought he played well at right back when Seamus was out. Pity he got injured himself. So if he plays centre half then he's going to prove very useful.

6.) 09 Feb 2017 00:46:12
Its u23 mike.

I believe that they were also Hull's shirt sponsor this year which does not bode well for us. Not sure why we can't get a decent sponsor especially now that we are in Europe and a new stadium is on the horizon.

Maybe someone could explain any way we cannot get into the Europa cup if we finish 7th and all the six teams above us now finish in the tip six? If Leicester win the Champions League they go into the Champions League as the fifth team so nothing changes. If Leicester win the Champions League and United win the Europa then both of those teams and the top three teams go into the Champions league since not more than five teams from the three countries of Spain, Germany and England can enter the Champions league in any one year. That means that the fourth league spot plus the fifth/ sixth and seventh spots get into the Europa providing United stay in any of the top six spots and one of the teams already qualified for Champions League or Europa win the FA cup.
If United win the Europa then they go into the Champions League as the fifth British team and the seventh place is still secure for the Europa League.
The only problem we will have is if United finish 8th or lower and I can't see that happening.

Every player has their price. If a very high offer came in for any of our players and the management thought they could replace that player with a lower cost alternative but equal in talent that would happen providing the player wanted to leave. I suspect some of our first team squad realize that playing on a regular basis is better than sitting on some other team's bench.

Don't get me wrong ed I have nothing but praise for Kenwright he has saved the club more than once and as you say brought in Moshiri but he I still think it would be best for the club for him to give up his managerial duties whatever they are and leave it to professionals and if we don't have the right person to run the club I am sure Moshiri can come up with a suitable one. That does not mean he needs to go, he just needs to be be a major shareholder and enjoy the ride.

{Ed025's Note - i get your drift mike and hopefully a life presidency will be on the cards, i just hope people appreciate the work he has done for the club over the years mate thats all..

Agree ed025, a great day when it gets done and the fat lady sings. Whenever I see quotes like "awaiting Kenwright's signature" I get nervous in case we have a screwup.
I do think that it's about time that we had professionals doing the paperwork and signing off on player contracts.

BlueMike76

{Ed025's Note - i think bill gets a lot of flack that he does not really deserve mike, he lives and breathes this club and also because of his stature hes the first person to blame when the board decide to be frugal, the club is moving forward and that is mainly down to him and his recruitment of moshiri and his stabilization of the club when the going got tough years back, its only my view of course and i know some supporters who want him gone but im certainly not one of them mate..

A difficult one ed. He was 31 when we got him in August 2016 for a reported 12M pounds. An expensive stop-gap in my opinion. On one hand we would have had trouble this year if we had not got him in and he is a solid if not spectacular performer, on the other hand I don't see him being good enough if we have any pretense of wanting to get into the top four since at this stage of his career he is just too slow. A good back up for the next few seasons and a good player to have in the squad especially in being a role model for the younger center-backs.

Good post that Tommy. Agree with most of what you say. For me the priorities are a goalkeeper and two center-backs. In addition we need an attacking midfielder who can split the defense with through balls and who can also score a few. Hopefully Lukaku will stay another year but if not we obviously need two strikers.
Mike.

I've been watching some of the South American world cup qualifying games. The stadiums have running tracks around them and the supporters are miles from the pitch. Can't let that happen otherwise "New Goodison" will have no character. Can't see how retractable seats would work since the permanent seats would still have to be a long way from the pitch. If Everton is going to pay for the ground then it should be a football stadium and not a joint one.
