When we first bought Jimmy Garner, he came with a reputation as a bit of a set-piece special-ist, if I'm remembering right. For whatever reason, we have not really seen any of evidence of this.
He scored a belter of a free kick today, albeit against League 1 opposition, so maybe DM should encourage the lad to step up more often in these situations. We haven't had anyone who can be a threat with free kicks around the box for a long time, let's hope that gives him an extra spring in his step.

Think I’ve said he played at England U21 WC? As RB?
Got to be worth a punt this season as such with his tenacity and crosses plus free kick delivery

Bring in a CM and play him at RB. It could solve a few issues. He’s just not that pacey though so doubt he’d be doing any overlaps.

His crosses and free kick deliveries have been bloody awful. Get a proper right back and stop messing about.

He really isn't a poor CM is he though? Gana and him sat in that 2 pivot for most our games under Moyes. Did pretty good really.

I wouldn't rate him as poor in all honesty but, that said, he hasn't really got going with us since he joined. He arrived to a struggling team with a clueless manager and has had a few injuries that have hampered him. I hope he kicks on now and stays injury free.
The point of the original OP was that he was meant to be a bit of a set-piece special-ist but we never got to see that, and that it we haven't had one of those for many years. Baines was probably the last player of that ilk.
