I feel like I had the same moan last year; seem to be watching other teams do fast business (as if somehow they are prepared after a long season of planning) . While we yet again ponder over what could, but inevitably won't be (like we've been twiddling our thumbs all year) .
What on earth is going on?

The reality, though, is that most Prem teams haven't done any business yet. Whether they sign now or in a month, they'd still have another month before the season starts. I'd rather we signed the right players than just do business quickly.

{Ed025's Note - that will be the telling thing JB...IF we get the right players, whether your a Moyes fan or not the quality of any new signings is paramount mate, going for experience and buying players who are in the last throw of their careers would be a massive mistake for me, yes maybe one or two who can offer something different but we dont want a plethora of has beens who are coming for a last pay day, now im being pessimistic here and just hope that we can get players in who will not only improve the side but also build for the future, if this does not happen and we dont get off to a good start the knives will be out for the manager very quickly and even those who can stand him will be baying for his blood...and rightfully so, but heres hoping that we have a good window and get off to a flier and all the negativity surrounding the club is put firmly to bed...cheers..

My fellow Evertonians. I am unsure why we have a scouting team. Just let Moyes sign any if his former players 39 or over. I can't believe he is asking the owners to back him only to identify players that are 30 or over and heading potentially to the tail end of their careers. Talk about playing it safe. His about unearthing the next set of gems for our club and built a squad that maybe capable of challenging for honours down the line that a team with ready made granite slow and predictable get to the byline and hope for the perfect cross to head home or trying to win a football match from dead balls and a set peace.
Pure anti football. This man is not a manager to help clubs progress possibly just to keep our heads above water in this league. IMWDT in Moye we don't trust

Wonder if Moyse is scouting the Iranian team, average age of 32.

Moyes is a dead man walking. It's only inevitable that he will be sacked, we might as well get shut now and reset before the start of the season instead of wasting another year and more money on players.
His comments on X, if true, are astounding.
It's only what I have been told as I am not on X or any other social media sites, except this one of course.

Whatever it's on, and if he did say it, if I was the owner, I would sack him now.

Well it's Father's Day over here in the US so happy Father's Day to all the Fathers on here.
Hope that we have a very successful season, play exciting attacking football, recruit some exciting new talent, play some of the youngsters, send on substitutes in a timely fashion giving them an opportunity to change the game if needed and for Moyes to grow a pair.

With you on that, Mike. All the best, mate.
21 Jun 2026 14:21:53
I had always been a Moyes supporter and was pleased when he came back again "to steady the ship" which I thought he would.
However, he concerned me last season on two accounts, the refusal give any of the youngsters he signed (we are led to believe he has final say on transfers) , a decent run of games, so we still don't know how good they really are.
Also his persisting with OBrien at RB in the latter part of the season when Patterson was fit and could have been played to allow OBrien to move to central defence where he was badly needed.
My initial patience with him has now worn very thin, and worry that he may be given to Christmas to see what happens this season.

He said at the time of signing them, they would not be playing in the first team. It's been well documented.

21 Jun 2026 18:30:55
So why sign them at all?
Why not loan them out?
Why loan in a young player just to not play him?
Makes absolutely no sense.

21 Jun 2026 18:38:06
Do you think that was a good strategy, GB, sign expensive players to sit on the bench when we have needed a right-back, for example, for years?
If that is what he did, and he had complete control of recruitment, he should have been fired.
The only mitigating circumstance is that others determined that we should spend money on, for example, Dibling, and Moyes did not want him.

No, I don't understand it, Mike. We need the players we bring in to be brought into the team quickly, if this isn't sorted in this window, and we start badly, then his day will be up, mate. He has a hell of a lot to prove.
21 Jun 2026 13:48:30
He plays a position we need depth in. Knows Moyes. Doubt he'll come and will go elsewhere. Spurs seem to be spending money like it's going out of fashion, so could end up there.

21 Jun 2026 14:06:31
He would be a big improvement on what we have. I'd sign him, mate.

21 Jun 2026 14:27:54
Yeah, agree Gents. I am not really too fussed about his age as we need players who can improve us now. His goal/assist record in the PL is brilliant and hasn't shown any signs of slowing down really.
Can see us needing double what we have supposedly offered though.

Is he for sale? If so, how much? Would West Ham do a swap including Dibling.

21 Jun 2026 15:12:43
Not sure he is for sale, dms, but every player has a price. He is their captain, talisman and best source of goals, so I expect it will be tough to get him out of there.
I think maybe around the 40m mark would do it, but that is just a guess.

I get the idea of “we need to be like Brighton and Bournemouth because they’ve done well over a sustained period of time and we haven’t”. Cool.
“Aston Villa bought well and we haven’t, we cannot expect to compete with them”. Cool.
Problem is, how did Sunderland get Europe then after coming straight up to the Premier League after basically changing their entire squad? Do they operate on The Flash time, and while it looked like one season to us, to them it was actually 20 seasons?
Sunderland destroy any argument Moyes or people who agree with him make, because they haven’t taken years, they haven’t got amazing world class players.
So how did Sunderland manage it in one, yet we are called unrealistic for wanting a bit better than 13th place after our manager spent a load of money in the summer only to not play most of the players he chose to buy.

We are stuck in a rut, and Moyes' stability season is over. Now, let's not allow mid-table mediocrity to be our resting place. Make changes where we are standing still. That applies to all aspects of the club. Stadium, being the biggest issue over time, is now sorted.
You'd think the rest is pretty much achievable now.
Sunderland, Forest, Leicester, Swansea, etc. have all done the impossible, and many others. Let's hope the club can make the necessary changes to allow us fans to see some success too.

The whole thing starts with the manager. If he has a negative mindset, then so will the players. Playing not to lose, then losing just saps all the life out of the team. We then get the manager saying certain players are not doing enough in training so he doesn't pick them. Where's the motivation, where's the man management?
The Spurs game summed it up for me. The game was there to be won but the manager had us sitting deep and the inevitable happened.
Then, with only a few minutes to go, he made changes, and we got players on the pitch who actually wanted to attack, and we looked a different team. The galling thing is these players have spent most of the season on the bench, because the manager doesn't think they work hard enough.
Keep this manager and we will remain a mid table team, and nothing will change.

Anyone could get a team in the top 6 of the prem nowadays. The football is poor, the managers are poor. I reckon I could get Everton in the top 6 in that league and I've only coached at junior level for 14 years. Honestly anyone that has anything about them would be able to fly up that league.
The standard is really really poor. Anyone could do it. This is not a joke. I honestly believe there is some plonkets in that league and if Sunderland, Fulham, Brighton, Forest, Villa can do it anyone can.

Always been a fan of Moyes, but we seem to be stable again now, perhaps it is time to get a progressive manager and let him spend some money. I do worry that Moyes seems to prefer the older players.
That's what Bournemouth and Brighton are doing, so if we are looking to follow them, perhaps before the season starts is a good time to do it.

{Ed025's Note - unfortunately that is not going to happen Dev..

21 Jun 2026 11:01:41
I'm absolutely staggered! We have spent the last 4/5 years worried about relegation, but this season we had no concerns on that! Do fans expect us to be challenging for top honours? I hope not. It's a building process.
Yes, we probably should have done better this season given the position we were in, but I for one am happy to be clear of danger by Christmas and hope we can progress over the next couple of years.

{Ed025's Note - i get what you are saying Leicester i really do, but if thats the height of our expectations just to survive then it shows how far we have fallen mate..

21 Jun 2026 11:27:25
I genuinely don't get how "a bit better than 13th" is the same as "we should be challenging for top honours".
20 Jun 2026 21:04:10
I've tried to stay patient with Moyes since he came back, because his first job was simple, keep us up. Fair enough, he did that. But last season was supposed to be about improving us, pushing us on, showing that we weren't just treading water anymore. And what did we get? One point more than the season before. One. If that's "improvement", then the bar is on the floor.
And then he comes out with this comment while in the US for the World Cup about not knowing whether a club like Everton can make "big huge strides", and that we should basically be aiming to match Bournemouth and Brentford. I'm sorry, but that's embarrassing. It's small time and it's the exact opposite of what this club needs, what us fans need.
What makes it worse is the history. This isn't the first time he's talked like this. When he left us the first time, he said he'd taken Everton as far as he could, and that was when we were finishing just around European places. Now he's back, and instead of talking about pushing on, he's lowering expectations even further. It's like he's already decided our ceiling before we've even kicked a ball for the new season.
I'm not asking for miracles. I'm not asking for Europe every year. I'm asking for a manager who actually believes Everton can grow again. Someone who doesn't talk like we should be grateful to be in the same bracket as clubs who were playing Championship football 5 years ago.
Moyes might keep us organised at the back. He might of kept us safe. But comments like this show exactly why he's not the man to take us any further. If he doesn't believe in the club's potential, then what's the point? We've spent years fighting fires. We don't need another manager telling us to accept our place.
For me, it's simple, ambition matters. And right now, he's showing none.

Absolutely spot on, OS.

21 Jun 2026 10:23:16
The other point, OS, is that he did not even keep our defence organised when we lost those last seven matches. They represented almost one quarter of all our league games.
