Looks decent. Still lacking depth, would need a couple more for the squad. Not sure where this James rumour is coming from, but a right back is essential.

Definitely need another striker Beto back up at best.

Would hope O’Brian starts at rightback.

If we were to sign Justin imagine he’d be as backup.

Makes little sense to start him ahead of O’Brian and stunt his development - seems quite a sensible player but imagine being dropped particularly when playing well would have a negative efffect on any player and may unsettle him.

We look like we’re building for the future so need to keep the youngsters happy.

RB, RW and a forward all need attention for me.

GD, we've been crying out for a RB for a couple of seasons now. Seamus will cover this position sparingly, NP isn't good enough to nail down that spot. JO'B is a CB who, as we all know, was thrown into full back to help out. He's done well there but I think we need to move away from playing players out of their natural position for any length of time. Unless we get significant injuries and we need to move some around to help out, that should be the only reason to utilise them out of position.

When it comes to the RB position, I'd rather we didn't bring in someone as back up, we need a player to come in and make that position their own. Buying for the future is fine but, for RB, the future is now, we have limited options there of substantial quality.

Just bought a striker £27 and calling for a Beto backup already! So Moyes doesn't know what he is doing!

Grealish won't be coming.

I agree we’ve been calling out for a rightback for several years now.

However I’m not sure it’s as pressing as it was last season as O’Brian has done well in that position.

If we bring in a starting rightback what then happens to O’Brian? He sits on the bench waiting for an injury to branthwaite or Tarkowski and then hopes he’s picked ahead of Keane?

Not sure after such decent performances from O’Brian he’ll be happy to sit on the bench.

I think next season we will need a definite starting rightback as O’Brian will then hopefully join branthwaite in centre of defence.

Moyes didn't bring Chimiti in did he? Nor Beto. Barry is young and untested in this league, he has potential but he could take time to settle in. If we get any injuries to forwards then we are a bit light in that department.

It's unfortunate, gd, but he was brought in as cover for CB not to play RB. Should he be ahead of JB or Tarks for CB? I'd say not just yet in all honesty as they are our best pairing for that position. He will get game time covering both positions over the course of the season. The point is that he's not a RB and we have been cryimg out for one for seasons. Fans have had a gripe over players not playing in their natural positions before now, so we should be targeting natural RB's who can come straight into the team, not someone who co. es in now but won't really get a look in for another season.

Can see Argument both ways with I"Brien and he did a excellent job last season filling in, tend to agree with GD, not as urgent a position as previously and will no doubt move centrally in a year or so, sometimes players can just find themselves a position, Dan Burn and Joelinton at Newcastle being two prime examples of players filling in a position that they don't seem naturally suited for, saying that I'd like seeing us with another RB who can get up and down and get a decent cross in, defensively O'Brien seems reliable, attacking wise not so. Just my opinion.

27 mill to sit on his bum bluepotato?

07 Aug 2025 16:06:29
I get what you both mean, mocker mate. Not wanting to tempt fate, but what happens if Jake gets a long term injury? The ones who can play in that position currently aren't up to the job and only serve to make us weaker so, for that reason, I'd prefer us to get another RB in that can come straight into the team under such circumstances.

DM, was he not brought in as a CB to provide competition and cover? Is he a natural RB? The lad has said himself that he sees himself as a CB.

So, yes, 27m is on the bench if we bring in someone who is a proper RB. It's up to the lad himself to break into the team in his favoured position, that goes without saying.

Will Barry be starting for us or will he be another 27m player sitting on his bum? If he takes the CF position then Beto at almost 25m will be sitting on his hum on the bench. Or do we play one of those forwards in midfield seeing as we spent almost 27m on them too? Sorry mate, I don't get your logic on this one at all.

07 Aug 2025 16:54:02
Yep totally agree BP, was what I was referring to with the need of another RB, not so much a starter but someone who can challenge the shirt and offer something different.

As it stands currently I think O'Brien has warranted the the spot for now and as you rightly say mate, we are weak if injuries occur to him or if he needs move across to cover JB or Tarks, Garner offers a option, Paterson unfortunately not working out and Seamus age as caught up with him, O'Brien made a big difference last season, certainly from a defensive unit but I'd go along with we need more going forward or at least another option unless we can get a top level RW, certainly should have been addressed along time ago our right side.

07 Aug 2025 17:33:43
I liked O'brien at RB not bombing forward obviously but at times we seem to go 3 at the back when needed and was another threat up top from set pieces when Garner didn't hit it straight to the keeper. i would prefer a RB myself but O'brien offers us that option if we don't get 1 throo the door.
