I know I might get a bit of grief for this but what do you all see in Eddie Howe? Would he be a step up from Moyes? I don’t think so. For me they are very much the same. If I was Newcastle I would have got rid of him before now. He hasn’t achieved anything and went backwards last season. I know they got Champions League football under him but these days in a poor league that’s nothing to shout about. Newcastle want Champions League every year nowadays and just a 1 off if you look at his overall performance as manager it doesn’t look great.

Win percentage isn’t great and his football again like Moyes can be very boring. I know Newcastle won the Carabao Cup but that’s it, all them millions and no progress going backwards in the league. He seems a nice guy and average manager but not good enough to take a club to the next level. Anyone can win a cup but not everyone can build a successful team to compete year in year out. He is out of his depth at Newcastle; they have ambition.

If our fans don't think that winning a trophy and qualifying for the Champions League would be a step up, then we really are in trouble.

{Ed025's Note - i would bite your arm off for that JB..

30 Jul 2026 11:59:27
What's good about Howe is he plays players in their right position, not squeezing giant centerbacks anywhere he can fit them in.

30 Jul 2026 12:03:21
Well, football is all about opinions, I suppose.

{Ed025's Note - it certainly is mate..

30 Jul 2026 12:28:04
Nice guy, but no thanks.

30 Jul 2026 16:37:21
He likes his team to play aggressively with high pressing football who try to win the ball back quickly.
He likes his full backs to push up high and midfield to work tirelessly.
He has roughly a 45% win rate with Bournemouth and Newcastle, getting promotion with Bournemouth and Champions League with Newcastle.

He is excellent at developing younger players and building team spirit.

Although, he can be tactically stubborn sometimes and rarely has a plan B and can leave it late to make substitutions.

But, he is also an Evertonian and knows what this club and its fans want and demand, which could be a huge benefit.

30 Jul 2026 18:18:46
I don't see much difference between him and who we've got now in all honesty. I thought people wanted a more dynamic, progressive manager to replace DM? Or is it just anyone bar DM at this point for some?

30 Jul 2026 11:11:58
I can just imagine the tug of war now between two old Everton stalwarts on here. One for Moyes and one for Howe. It's cruel to taunt GB and Skylark like this. ???

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Jul 2026 12:23:25
Keep telling you, mate, I thought DM did a good job at first, and should have at least a window. If no improvement by Dec, he will be gone, not rocket science.

30 Jul 2026 18:51:08
We've been doing that with the last three or four managers, which is one of the reasons we are still making no progression.

30 Jul 2026 11:11:39
Cannot believe we are putting forward a price of 80mill, two players have just gone for well over £100 mill, and he is a far better player than either one, are recruitment team / negotiators are a joke.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Jul 2026 11:56:04
None of us, or the tattle press, have any idea what is said in discussions between clubs. Of course, the club will ask for as much as they can get.

30 Jul 2026 12:06:46
His father's in the press saying he's not leaving Everton. Now that's a refreshing change.

{Ed025's Note - aint it just Ace, i will be happy with that mate..

30 Jul 2026 12:31:28
Hope it's true.

30 Jul 2026 09:33:56
Not Everton related but Eddie Howe has left Newcastle by mutual consent.
Good luck Geordies.

{Ed025's Note - i for one would like it to be Everton related Big C..

Agree0 Disagree3

30 Jul 2026 09:59:41
If I'm honest, I'd absolutely love to see Eddie Howe at Everton, but I just don't see Moyes leaving yet. If results and performances weren't where they needed to be by Christmas, and Howe was still available, I'd have him here in a heartbeat.

He's one of the best coaches in the country at improving players, building a strong dressing room, and getting teams playing with intensity and a clear identity, and, as an Evertonian himself, he'll understand exactly what this club and its fans expect.

{Ed025's Note - count me in OS..

30 Jul 2026 10:27:44
Is it Xmas yet?

{Ed025's Note - Eddie Howe to Everton is like one of my 6ft putts, everything seems to line up perfectly and i know the speed, a ball outside the left lip, then i hit it and it doesn,t move 1 iota....disappointment etched on my face yet again.. :(

30 Jul 2026 10:38:54
I like Howe, believe he wasn't helped by club selling their better players. Would have him over Moyes anyday.

30 Jul 2026 10:41:09
Can someone have a word with Howe and tell him to have a break from football until January at least..

30 Jul 2026 10:48:56
I'd love Howe at Everton, but realistically, if he's leaving Newcastle because of their transfer strategy, what would he make of ours?!

30 Jul 2026 10:55:48
Funnily enough Eddie Howe's first signing for Newcastle was a right back in Trippier. Think Moyes has signed 1 in 20 years.

30 Jul 2026 11:01:36
He'll be snapped up within a week.

I would love to see him as our manager.

30 Jul 2026 11:03:08
If we sell Ndayie, which looks very likely, a new manager should have a few quid to chuck about.

30 Jul 2026 12:34:52
If he would come to us, would bring in Rashford.

30 Jul 2026 11:54:08
Ed025 at our age you need to use the pensioners putting strategy
One ball outside

{Ed025's Note - im a bit of a puller GS, not with birds but certainly with golf clubs mate.. :)

30 Jul 2026 09:25:01
For all the Moyes haters out there, and yes there are lots and lots.
Something for you get ya teeth into and knickers in a twist. Eddie Howe is about to leave Newcastle.

{Ed025's Note - perfect fit for me BB..

Agree0 Disagree5

30 Jul 2026 10:34:28
Not sure how these things work out, but didn't Maressca quit CFC? I know he ended up still being paid up by City to CFC for £12m? So is that a sort of 'gardening leave'? So ideally Eddie sits on his hands for 10 months, and when DM's contract is up, we get Eddie. A Suadi backed club probably has the same convoluted terms in their contracts, and unless someone comes and pays through the nose, Howe probably ain't working for a while.

I like him and he'd be a great choice for phase 3 of the TFG era. Have a feeling he'd want a CL club, but a lot can happen by next June.

30 Jul 2026 11:04:10
Depends on how a manager leaves, I think. Difference between being sacked and leaving by mutual consent. If Howe has accepted a pay off, he should be free to join another club.

30 Jul 2026 11:27:52
But Maressca resigned.. hence my point.

30 Jul 2026 11:37:56
Howe, not for me, and he wouldn't want Everton.

30 Jul 2026 09:08:20
Go get Howe quick.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Jul 2026 09:29:23
Moyes to Scotland. Eddie Howe to Everton, hope this comes off.

{Ed025's Note - im just off to church now TL..

30 Jul 2026 09:36:37
This would make a lot of sense. To get a manager of his ability for free won't be an option very often. Let's see how proactive our board really are.

30 Jul 2026 10:43:14
Oh Flower of Scotland, when will we see our own Moyesee to come and manage us and make us great again.

30 Jul 2026 12:37:51
What have you got against Scotland.

{Ed025's Note - love it AB..

30 Jul 2026 18:53:18
My wife is Scottish. ?

Alistair Johnston, the Celtic right back, is the type of player we will end up with in that position. I might be being cynical, but because he will most likely be cheaper than some of our other targets in that position, if I remember rightly bluenose said he could do a job but a steady rather than spectacular player.

That kinda sums up this club — steady, nothing out of the ordinary. Oh how times have changed since I started supporting this club in the middle 1980's

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jul 2026 09:16:00
Only the 1980s, 1960s for me, mate hmmmm.

30 Jul 2026 09:55:06
I am only 59, fella, steady on, lol. I am glad there are some like you, bro, that support Moyes, although I am firmly not in that camp. For me, he has had his best years and it's time to transition. My pick would be Lee Carsley. What say, my fellow Evertonians.

{Ed025's Note - i like Lee TB but my choice would be Eddie Howe mate..

30 Jul 2026 10:44:23
I remember mentioning wanting Eddie Howe about 3-4 years ago and got slated on here cause almost everyone wanted Potter ? I even got told by an Ed that Potter was twice twice the manager. How times change over time. I'd have Moyes every day of the week between those three but I am a big fan of Eddie. Good luck to him ?

30 Jul 2026 03:00:11
My first post here, and want to address some of the negativity I have seen on here. First, I am frustrated with the lack of signings as well. We can certainly be frustrated with the recruitment team. But what we have seen so far, looking like a "championship" side, is nonsense. A lot of people have made this point, and I will repeat it. This is preseason. I have personally never seen a good Everton preseason game except when we battered some team 22-0 or something. The fact is every Premier League team looks like crap right now; United lost to Wrexham and Villa lost to a mediocre Spanish side.

Can we be better? Yes, but we can't lose the season before it has started. Let's get behind what we have, which, minus the final seven games, was pushing for Europe. I personally think we have a really strong spine of the team and I think our midfield is going to be excellent this year, not to mention our home record should improve after the first season under our belts. UTFT.

{Ed025's Note - welcome mate, when you say the spine of the side, we finished with Pickford, Tarks, Gueye and Barry, for me 2 of them need replacing and 1 has left, its not the results in pre -season for me ATVK its of course about getting players fit and integrating new players and trying different things, thats not going too well at the moment and i think we need a bit of a lift with a couple of new faces sooner rather than later so we are in fact ready for the start of the season...heres hoping..

Agree5 Disagree3

30 Jul 2026 09:16:58
Or you could be positive Ed and say the spine is.
Pickford
OBrien
Branthwaite
Tarks
Garner
KDH
Hopefully Hackney

Outside
Ndiaye (if stays)
Grealish (Hopefully)
Can't help with the striker bit though ha ha

{Ed025's Note - thats not the spine BB...thats the whole skeleton mate.. :)

30 Jul 2026 09:17:26
They will come Ed have faith mate

{Ed025's Note - im holding you to that GB.. :)

30 Jul 2026 01:47:41
Brentford have just signed one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe - Mamadou Sangare for 41m.

I wonder if they fancy lending us their recruitment team for a couple of weeks.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Jul 2026 09:17:48
Or that player fancies living in London.
