This is my first post, I have been reading the comments and discussions on this website for some time, I don't consider myself to be a great reader of the game but I was disappointed with the loss at villa and i'm abit worried but I believe faith and trust in the manager and team we have will only be good for the club. We can't expect instant success it takes time and games. No one knows why silva picks the team and formation he does but he must have a valid reason. We have to give him and the team time. I understand some players are below par but they will get figured out sooner or later and moved on I believe. Give marco 2-3 seasons before we ask for his head. It's been embarrising the amount of managers we've had in the last few years and that has rocked the club, we need fan backing and support to stabilise our club.

I think the problem is, if Silva picked the right team we wouldn't complain so much. But when it's obvious our midfield lacks energy and we rely way too much on Lucas Digne and Silva cannot see this as he never changes it, that's an issue. I firmly believe that if we have him for 2 more seasons (he already had a full one and it was quite bad) that we will still be in the exact same position.

I don't know if its stubbornness or he doesn't know what he's doing. I've seen people suggest he doesn't have the right players yet and wants to go to this magical 4-3-3 formation. Well he's taking his sweet time with it. Slow lazy midfield that goes backwards all the time, playing Richarlison on the right, where he can't cut in, he never goes past anyone so it's pointless playing him. He's basically there to create space for Coleman who just kicks it out for a goal kick.

I'm not a fan of Tom Davies but this team is crying out for him, someone, anyone who can take the ball forward. Gomes hides, Schneiderlin is what he is and Sigurdsson just sort of walks around.

I just don't see us improving under Silva at all. We needed a proven winner in charge and instead got a man who was relegated (because that worked out so well the last time) regardless of circumstances and had a decent start at Watford and then collapsed into some of the worst performances and results imaginable.

Let's stay positive lads.

Gomes hides? Really? I know he had a howler on Friday, but you can't say he hides. surely if that was the case his shocking performance on Friday wouldn't have been so obvious.

We won't get proven winners because they usually with just a few exceptions, go for pre packed clubs already set up to win.

Our midfield lack energy right now because we lost Gueye to PSG and have replaced him with someone not ready yet (and now injured) . I would say we need to see if Gbamin can energise the midfield before we lay the blame on Silva.

Is Tom Davies the answer? Too many time leaves huge holes in the midfield because he let's his energy get the better of him and chases the ball into positions he shouldn't. But he has an excellent engine on him, so will be an option should we need energy in the midfield.

As regards Siggy, he does the same thing every season. He turns up Christmas time. He's such a slow starter to the campaign its infuriating. But by the time we're well into it most have forgotten or forgiven. He'll do a Gruyf turn on Maddison then smash it in the net from 30 yards and pick up his awards at the end of the season.

But when this is all ticking over nicely, which it will. Then we will all be looking at the table to see if this started too late for us to get the top six everyone wants. Or even better, soon enough for us to actually get excited about the campaign and not constantly talk about replacing the coach.

Staying positive. Better not bitter.

Good post TA. there are definitely some trigger happy supporters on here who react to one result.
We will most likely start the season slowly like we always do, but, if we can not have the mid season blip we had last year we should do really well.

26 Aug 2019 12:12:02
Thing is Smit, we all want the same thing, but have differing time frames of expectations. I’m currently more excited about what the new players can do than I am disappointed with the villa performance. I appreciate that not everyone has the same understanding but I can’t see the point in digging out the coach until I’ve seen what he does with what he bought.

Then Toffee play Schneids and Davis together with Schneids told to sit. Gomez does slow the game down, late in the tackle and at times snide with it (watch the bloke) .

26 Aug 2019 14:32:38
TA you mention that Tom Davies is out of position but that's because he isn't a holding midfield player. I'm sure he plays CAM. He's great at getting the ball and moving forward. Some of the games he was captain for he started as a CAM.

26 Aug 2019 14:46:09
But this isn't based on what result, it's all of last season and now this season and nothing had changed.

Maybe Gomes doesn't hide but he definitely plays within himself, he's content to be even further back than Schneiderlin and not try to influence the game.

And another problem with this Everton team that's been a problem with Everton teams since Moyes left? We don't press. We don't run. We just stand around and wait for the opposition to give the ball back with a bad pass. Certain players press but we don't press as a team.

26 Aug 2019 16:21:46
No problem with Schneiderlin and Davies. That on paper would work. But saying that DFS, on paper, Gomes and Schneiderlin would be better.

I agree he’s not a holding midfielder and that when he’s played for instance with Gueye he has been given more licence to roam. But we haven’t got Gueye and I’m not confident that Davies would be as effective without him. He does tend to be very far behind play when teams are breaking against us. Just an observation.

Swan, I agree we don’t press. I was saying it the other day that whilst DCL runs at the centre backs he isn’t backed up so he’s just running across the back 3 whilst they are passing the ball around him. Poor guys having his lungs burned by them. He needs help, and Silva does need to get this better choreographed.

Deefc, Part of the problem and God bless him is our own Bill K. and his continual hands on. Love the bloke for his initial financial sacrifice and getting us free of picnic hamper man, but he really does now need to put his heart back in his chest. My view and no disrespect intended, the opposite if anything.

26 Aug 2019 22:20:53
So your saying Siggy doesn't back DCL up in the press?
He's the 2nd to press every time. Watch the game.
Once they are closed down the wingers press too. Ricky and Bernard.
Then the back 4 push up. It's what makes us so good at the counter attack, and why we don't concede. One thing you can't say is we are not good at the counter, we may struggle to break teams down but we can counter.
It's what beat man u, arsenal and Chelsea last season.

27 Aug 2019 14:00:54
I'm sorry DFS but I can't understand what point you are trying to make dragging Bill Kenwright into this.
I've read deefc's postand don't see the point you are trying to make.

My best guess at it is that you are blaming BK for the high turnover in managers? Is that your point

If it is where are your facts because as I see it Moyes left because he wanted to go to Man U after 10 years under Kenwright and BK appointed Martinez who I don't remember a lot of fans complaining about it at the time but I'm sure DC or Swan or yourself will say you were

Martinez leaving, Koeman being signed and then sacked, Unsworth in temp charge, Allardyce! and finally Silva all came under Moshiri

Are you saying BK was responsible? If so why? What do you have to back it up

Are you saying BK voiced his opinions on these events. If so why shouldn't he as a major shareholder do so? He's got far more right to do so than you have to come on this site and have a dig at him

What were you getting at?
