I think it speaks volumes that nobody is bothered john stones is out at the weekend I personally think he hasn't progressed that much first half of the season just wondering what other blues think (I do think he's one of the reasons we have suffered at the back) he can't just rely on his passing skill and composer there is a lot more he needs to learn to his game just my opinion.

{Ed025's Note - i think the guy is quality muff, but we have to remember he is still very young and inexperienced, im convinced he will become an excellent player but what with the media and every man and his dog touting him as the next bobby moore plus money that could finance a small country its no wonder his mind could be elsewhere at times..

I agree but unfortunately its not going to be with us, I also think if jags and mori carry on the way there playing he can't be let back in, no way.

The lad is 21 and also an International. Rooney was 16 .

{Ed025's Note - its about how you handle it DM, rooney had an old head on young shoulders ans has always been street wise, now i dont know stones personally but he comes across as very humble and retiring so its hard to compare the two for me mate..

There's no doubt he's a good player with bags of potential but, as it happens with every player, he has suffered a loss in form. A few games out, with injury or not, will do him the world of good. He hasn't been the same since the fans got on his back in the spurs game but they were only telling him what his manager should be telling him, get rid of the ball! Let him recharge and be ready to step back in when needed, this lay off will benefit us and him in the tail end of the season.

"Rooney", "Old" and "Head".

I'm sure I've seen those words before, lol.

{Ed025's Note - love it dags.. :)

Totally agree spudv. Just hope there is no quarrel when he returns to fitness. Like if Jags and Mori keep him out of the team. Hope he takes it well if that happens.

I think Martinez is good with that sort of thing and will keep Stones happy one way or another.

I think another point to make when you compare Rooney at 16 to Stones at 21 is the positions they play in. Being a striker generally means that you can make mistakes as long as you get a few goals, but at Centre back 1 mistake (or 8 in Stones case) really cost you. How many 21 year old centre backs do you see playing first team in the top leagues in Europe?

Your totally right muff he has plenty more to learn. Exactly what Ed025 says too. The more he learns the better he gets. As stated he's only 21 so plenty of time to learn and plenty of time to get better.

It will be hard for him to get back in if the other 2 keep playing well. That will only do Stones the world of good and bring him back down to earth. If he was getting carried away with himself in the first place which very few would actually know for certain. Think Ed025's right he comes across humble but very confident in his ability.

I think that's what annoyed him at Spurs game. As spudv says that's when he brought attention to himself and hasn't been himself since. Look at, the kid is going to have a long career and no doubt he'll have plenty of ups and downs.

I hope he has them at Everton. Jags is not going to go forever. Still has a 3 years maybe more. Be good to still have Stones around then.

Gunner your some boy. As Ed025 said Rooney was street wise. Would love to see him back in an Everton jersey. Think if he breaks all these records this year or next year it's quite possible he'll come back.

You can say want you want about Rooney, he hasn't forgotten where he came from. That's for sure.

Good point Blue Tommy. I was thinking the same myself about the positions. There's a lot more thinking in the centre back position. Thinking about which option to go with.

Alot of the time the player has to make decisions quickly as well. So for that reason I'd say centre back is more physiological. It weighs heavier on the mind if you know what I mean and you can get caught with mistakes easier.

Not making excuses for Stones just giving my opinion which I know won't be everyone's.

I think Jags has closer to 1 year than 3 years left. He is no youngster, we have Galloway and Browning, and I don't see him retaining his level to the age that Distan/ Gough/ Weir did.

Your right Pod when a player gets to 33 he starts to wain. How fast? Only time will tell as each player are individual and it can go downhill quickly or slowly. Hopefully slowly in this case.

He's contracted for another 2 and a half years. June 2018 when he'll of been here 11 years!

I can see the retirement headlines already 'Jags was phenomenal throughout his long career at Everton! '

Stones is going to be an absolute beast of a defender but he is young and making a lot of mistakes. Just because he has a price tag of £50 mil or whatever doesn't mean he can't be dropped for a loss of form.

Dropping him for poor form is an even bigger statement of intent by the club than turning down offers for him. The statement is not made to other clubs but to the players themselves - perform or you are out of the team no matter who you are!

06 Feb 2016 12:40:59
Totally agree BlueJohnUns dropping Stones is the right thing to do.

Pity your theory didn't apply to Howard.

06 Feb 2016 16:49:18
Never a truer word spoken bluejohn, anyone who underperfoms should be potentially dropped, that's soft lads problem though, his favorites get straight back in the team regardless of their form.
