Who else believes that Alan Stubbs is one of the leading (perhaps even the first choice) candidate to replace RM - albeit a couple of seasons earlier than expected and in far worse circumstances than expected?

Agree0 Disagree5

Nope he's not for me.

He probably is sid but it would be the first step on a slippery slope for me mate. We need experience and a big name for me but unfortunately as a club we just don't think big as the candidates on the list lasttime proved. Realistic targets should be billic and deboer but to be honest I think martinez will be here at the start of next season regardless of what happens between now and then anyway.

I really don't understand the obsession with old players coming back to manage the club, this is from the past and is proven not the way forward in this league today, it is no longer about a 'love or passion' for the club they once represented but about getting results, that is the foremost target and how they achieve and survive. The modern day manager is like a player in his own right, and seeks success and reward in the same way.

Wakka: I pretty much agree with most of your post

However the 'run through a brick wall' feeling for our beloved Everton Football Club, would be a great asset if it was applied by a tactical genius who could instill the aforementioned into the team etc.

Does he exist though?

Me personally :

Short term I prefer a tough 'Pulisesque' type to get this squad organised properly.

Long term just give me a manager who will adapt to what he has at his disposal and doesn't worry about the short ball or the long ball just play the right ball ffs.

I'd have rhino before stubbly.

To many on here want to look back and not forwards, and not only that it's not as if either Stubbs or Unsworth were great players either and can you imagine good players wanting to sign for them no me either. Just because Martinez is not working out means we to go for yard dogs who are more than likely fully entrenched with hoofball tactics, and this run through a brick wall mentality only Mourinho is capable of getting players do that not two plodders from Everton's not so glorious past.

Difficult to say who could come in, a lot of posters fancied Koeman but saints are now starting to falter and with no European commitments, Pulis short term but its back to Moyes style, managers like Mourinho great but will never happen, Pochitinho probably get axed end of season by Levy but realistically no one else at a prem league club I personally think as a long term replacement.
Ideally RM should eat some humble pie take a leaf from Brenda's book and readjust our playing style to suit the players!

Long term new manager would prefer UK based, the main one for me would be Steve McClaren, who did well as assistant at Man U, did well at Middlesborough and Holland. Encourages good football. I think the only mistakes he made was referring to certain player as Stevie Gee and taking a brolly to a football match. As Derby are looking good for promotion probably wouldn't stand a chance to get him before season end anyway. Gary Monk at Swansea one to look at for future. A 'foreign' manager may well demand a large transfer kitty.
If new manager needed to get out of the mess to end of season, only Peter Reid comes to mind.

{Ed025's Note - reid would be my choice as well keenone..

Reid is a dinosaur his time has gone as far as football management is concerned shame though as he was a great player.

{Ed007's Note - He's still a mere whippersnapper compared to Ed025 though.}

Hoddle I feel would be a good replacement too
