what do people think about brian Oviedos comments about us not coping with been in the league cup and its distracted us from performing in the prem my first thoughts was don't we ever learn from are mistakes.

{Ed025's Note - im not having that muff, i remember peter reid i think it was saying they loved playing more games as they cut back on the training mate..that makes sense to me..

Agree0 Disagree1

Can't help thinking though Ed025 that Oviedo's comments maybe somewhat influenced by his injury history. As an addendum I believe Oviedo to be one of our better players. I would play Oviedo at LWB with either Baines or Garbutt behind him.

{Ed025's Note - then he should have really stated that his opinion was based on that rather than incriminating the rest of the squad for me DM..

04 Feb 2016 21:39:46
spot on ed025 me thinks what he says is a lack of mentality and shows Martinez isn't drumming it into them just think bobby is a weak manager and far to soft, his comment of we showed a true team performance of game management made me laugh its one game try winning two or three on the trot then say that, its as if one win is enough he just duznt keep the team on there toes enough for me and let's them slack off which brings in the inconsistency so so frustrateing, I wonder if he's ever bollocked them, I doubt it.

{Ed025's Note - i think thats why the catterick,s, fergusons,s and shankley,s of this world were so successful muff, they took no nonsense mate..

04 Feb 2016 21:46:15
Fair enough. He wouldn't say it but I would and just perhaps it has something to do with the numpty we are stuck with. Up to 11th now (progress) .

04 Feb 2016 22:01:02
even kendall had his moments, brian clough was a master of keeping his players on there toes, dunc agree think Oviedo is a very good player prob would of taken baines spot if he stayed away from injury it prob would work him in front of baines, I believe a lot of of the prob with injury prone players is there mentality there mentally weak dyer, anderton, sturriage, carrol ect.

04 Feb 2016 22:23:47
Have other thoughts as well. Stones is currently a lesser version of Beckenbauer, a libero, the guy that mops up and brings the ball out, letting other players do the nasty stuff. He either has to sit as last man or in Barry's position.

{Ed025's Note - i think that could be half of the problem DM, he sees himself as a good footballer(which i believe he is) and maybe he aspires to being a midfielder rather than a defender, i personally dont think hes good enough to play CM..but what do i know?..

04 Feb 2016 23:26:29
I can see him been a lothar mattheus type of player protecting the back 4 and spraying balls around keeping the flow of the game going (stones) that way he duznt have that much responsibility defencively as yes I think he's great at playing the ball but for such a highly ratted player he's useless in the air.

04 Feb 2016 23:44:29
I agree he's useless in the air. But I think he's miles off being a Lothar Mattheus. He's too tall to be a defensive mid and would give the ball away too much. It seems he thinks of himself too highly and if he's not prepared to get rid when he needs to then we should cash in. It was a breath of fresh air seeing Mori and Jagielka putting their foot through it when needed like a proper CB.

I think we're all being a bit too hard on the fella. Can all us think back to when we were 21? Any young man would do well not to let it get to his head. This is Stones proper first full season as a first choice player.

I think we have a lot to learn about him yet. I also think he has a lot to learn. Hope he accomplishes his potential.

To me he handled everything up until recently very professionaly for such a young player. The team was at its lowest since last season before the Newcastle game. You could see a lot of players getting annoyed with the way things were going. Not just Stones.

All these people mad to sell him at the first sign of difficulties make me laugh. He's young and needs to develop to the player we all expect and want him to be.

So I say stand by him and encourage him because as I said he's still very young and like any footballer at 21 needs to be developed and helped in any way possible.

Not sold off so some other team can gain from the exceptional talent that we all know he will become.

05 Feb 2016 01:36:19
I think he's possibly the best defender in the league but he needs to learn to do the simple things and combine that with his skill. I'd love for him to stay with us his whole career NBTB but don't think he wants to be here, that's the only reason I'm suggesting cashing in. I think it's more important to keep Rom because would be hard to replace him with a striker of a similar caliber. Centre halves can be replaced, just look at other defences in the league with supposedly average defenders but conceding few goals when working as a unit.

05 Feb 2016 02:27:14
I do agree OllBlue1878 if he really wants to go he'll never reach his full potential until he's completely happy with where he's playing.

Your right other defence are conceding less goals with average players which is down to coaching. Look at Moyes defence one of the best in premiership and never had a player with Stones potential.

This is really what I'm getting at, if Stones leaves he's going to go to most likely Man City or a club challenging for numerous trophies every year.

I'm sick of us selling our best players to these teams. We are never going to win anything by continually doing that.

As annoyed with Martinez as I am like most of us, I admire what my reading into what he's trying to do and achieve.

Imo he's trying to hold onto our best players who are mostly young and will get better with age. Add in more youngsters to have a confer belt of talented players coming through along with looking for value in the market for established players.

It's the only way currently I can envisage us ever returning to winning ways. If anyone has any better ideas about getting a winning team together I'd be more than glad to hear them.

Apart from a sugar daddy coming in and every year saying to the manager there's £200m get some players. I can't see any other way only the way I mentioned above or the second way with the sugar daddy. Personally I'd like to see an Arsenal type approach to the future of the club. Very shrewd and realistic in my view. In Wenger they got not only a top manager but an equally brilliant business man who had very good vision for the future of their football club.

It infuriates me that Martinez only downfall really is defence. If he got that right I think it would be fantastic. He may get it right yet. I said I'd make proper judgment on him at the end of the season. At the moment I think he's still learning himself how to set up the defence. I hope he keeps improving in that regard. Because if he does we may be onto something.

If not hopefully the next manager can take us to the next level. Who knows, there just might be a Wenger out there for Everton that has a long term vision of how to bring the club forward successfully.

When I was 21 NBTB, I had already been in the Military 6 years and half way through my second overseas tour. It is called growing up fast, never going to happen to most of these lads today because they are pampered to much.

05 Feb 2016 13:02:06
I know DM how times change. The hype and pressure is totally different today than it was 20 - 30 years ago. The media responsible for a lot of it.

05 Feb 2016 19:14:08
nbtb why have you got to mention moyes in nearly every post you sent you really need to get over him mate and forget him hahaha or are you his love child.

05 Feb 2016 20:26:34
Yea I'm his love child muff. Don't mention him in every post. I actually haven't mentioned him much as of late. Only when replying to discussions about him. Haven't started a thread about him in months.

Think Degsypulford has mentioned him a lot more as of late. Just ask Degsy or Ed. I'm sure they'll clarify what I'm after saying. I'd say I've mentioned him bout 5% of my post in last month.

Think your a bit behind the times yourself muff.

05 Feb 2016 20:38:16
Muff just for you I checked my profile and the last threads I've commented. Seeing that I haven't much else to be doing at the moment 😊

In all 20, that's 5 banter and 5 rumour posts. Also in last 5 banter replies and last 5 rumours replies I've mentioned that man once in above thread. By the way DM in last comment is for duncansmum.

No harm done, eh.

{Ed025's Note - dont take things to heart NBTB, im sure muff was only yanking your chain mate..it happens a lot on here.. :)

05 Feb 2016 20:59:24
I know Ed025. Don't like taking crap though. I know, no hard feelings. Just wanted to clear it up. Forget about it now.

COYB 😁.

{Ed025's Note - water off a ducks back mate..thats the ticket..

05 Feb 2016 21:09:03
Ed25 I think nb is just biting back I think although muff probably wernt being malicious I have noticed over the past couple of weeks certain posters keep disregarding anything nb says and to be fair the guy never really looks for disagreements when he does disagree he does it rather rashionally and in a polite manner every post he puts up is hard to not agree with him there is the odd one of corse as we all have different opinions the guy obviously love the blues and we're all supposed to be brothers man.

Anyways I'm off for me dart match got a 5 leg quarter final at 10 o'clock me nerves are shot to bits it's been 4 yrs since I got this far. Wish me luck.

{Ed025's Note - nbtb is sound liam and a very good poster, the good thing with our lot is that we can take the mick without it becoming personal, ....good look with the darts mate when the athletes enter the arena.. :)

05 Feb 2016 21:27:56
ooooops touched a nerve ha soz I did say most post, no harm intended :-)

05 Feb 2016 22:54:18
No problem muff. It's all banter here I suppose. I prob offend some without realising it or intending to either.

Best of luck tonight Blueliam. 4 years eh, you never know this might be the year you break your barren run. Hopefully the same year as the Blues. Still have the FA cup to aim for.
