In the last three seasons to date we have sold players for 214m.
During the same time we have bought players for 480m.
Overall deficit of 157m. Average spend of 52m a year.
What is more interesting is that we currently have 16 players out on loan. Of which at least 12 of these will probably never see first team football again.
So you can see just how big a job Brands has on his hands, and maybe why we are not rushing into the market just yet.

{Ed002's Note - These figures are of no relevance to the issues in hand.}

I was just trying to highlight to supporters how big a job it is running a football club. And the challenges involved in this. Many supporters are desperate for us to buy more players. But this is not sustainable without reducing the size of the current squad. I would suggest that this is relevant to the current issues facing the club, and the future of the club.

Well done Woburn mate, makes you realise just how difficult it is to run a club, and just how quickly it could all get out of hand.

Woburn
Based on your figures the deficit would have been £256m .

yea your right mate, it should actually be 266, ran out of fingers. :) average spend of 88m per season.

Brands is getting some undeserved stick at the minute. Especially as he's been hoodwinked to work in a system that's not the one he specialises in and was hired for.
All that considered, he did some epic work getting 24 players out. Still more to do though.

Keane, Iwobi, failed to get Zaha, Failed to get centre half. Not sure he can be called a huge success either mind.

"failed to get Zaha" He has very publicly (AGM) refuted the rumours of that deal never being an option. Where's the failure?

Keane was great 1st season. Admittedly he's dropped off that level but he's far from responsibile for our damp season. England CB who is a great back up. Like I say he's not upto his own level. But again he's hardly the reason for some of our woes.

"failed to get cb" yes it's true. Our ability to get Zouma from his parent club who themselves had a transfer ban and an injury at CB was all Brands fault.
And how dare he not settle for another sticking plaster in that position.

Brands has been in the job 4 windows? Last winter we did nothing? This winter is still open. So he's done his work really in 2 windows. And considering how much of a mess we have been in, I think he has done well. Still a long way to go though. Not sure dragging Brands through the gutter is the way or what he deserves.

From what his past and some informed EDs have stated, I think it sounds lucky he hasn't thrown his toys out of the pram and quit.

{Ed002's Note - Everton failed to get Zouma as they went about the entire thing in an amateurish way when they made the approach to Chelsea in the summer.}

Steve Walsh signed Michael Keane not Brands zaha was never signing for us as we can't spend 70-80 mill on 1 player and by refusing to spend that much brands did his job Iwobi yes the jury is still out but brands has a massive job on his hands shifting unwanted players first.

Bit hit and miss really, but i'm very happy we got Digne and Gomes, Gbamin was by all accounts a coup but time will tell after injury. Richarlison is looking to be great business too. A great fee received for Gueye, and plenty of work being done moving players out. I'm happy with how Brands is doing personally and accept it is a long term project overall.

Good point about Keane brankdock.

16 Jan 2020 15:37:24
Absolutely Worcester.

He’s right those figures are important because as he says we have a dozen or so player taking up big chunk of salaries not to mention the transfer fees that we will take a loss on if you look at what Brands has done is bought players that won’t loose money on even if players like Ewobi does not be a success chances are we will still get money back.
