Going to be really annoyed when garbutt leaves, can't martinez see baines just doesn't do it anymore and hasn't since moyes' second to last season. His set pieces are dreadful and he can't defend. Surely its better to get rid or move positions and have two young left backs than an ageing left back and a player who won't replace him for 5 years and then will be old himself. In fact, can we do a poll?
Should baines be moved on to accomadate garbutt?
Yes
No

Cheers of possible

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree drop Baines not done anything this season in fact as u say since moyes tried to take him 2 old Trafford his form has been poor.
Garbutt deserves a chance but can u really see Martinez dropping baines when fit, I don't think so look @ Barry plays week in week out martinez won't drop him even though his performances have been poor for a long time.
Fear not cleverley will be on board next season another holding midfield player that sits & does nothing else.
Can't we find a Paul Scholes type player with loads of energy creates chances & scores goals 4 fun.
How many goals have come from midfield this season only 1 I can recall Barkley against Qpr now that's poor by any standards.
We must be slowest team on the break in the premier league so predictable & lethargic in midfield it's untrue.
Created 1 chance against Lpool in 90 mins very negative particularly @ home.
Time for Martinez to say goodbye his system just doesn't work & has been found out no plan b.

{Ed001's Note - sorry, meant to say that is added to the list for polls of the day.}

Baines is by no means finished so moving him out of the club to accommodate a young player with bags of potential is a bit daft. Not many of the squad can say they have played well this season so Baines is not alone in that respect.
Totally agree with you Jonesy, we need more fire power from midfield, there needs to be a better goal spread throughout the team

What!?! Drop Baines. Just like that. The player who holds the record for most assists in premier league history from that position. The player who has missed just one penalty in the premier league. The player we all wished had taken the ill fated pen against west brom.

Safe to say I disagree

Garbuts not really tried an tested like baines is he. Bains is no were near past his best

Have to say Baines decline is mirrored with that of Peanut, at their best it was a great left side!

As I said earlier, I think Baines should not be move out but that doesn't mean LG can't be accommodated. Why not play him on the left wing? Mirallas wants out so use a lad who wants to play. Like we did with Seamus before moving him to rb.

Quite a few points to make:
1. Baines's form has certainly dropped from the very high standard he had set. Whether it is a permanent drop who knows?
2. Garbutt shows potential. Especially going forward, but he is also not strong defensively.
3. As other posters have said. Baines's standard was so exceptionally high, we almost take it for granted. Has he played terrible or is he just reaching his previous heights in the last 15 games?
4. As I often say, why get rid of players? Surely you do that after securing a better player for the squad? Who have we got lined up that is better than Baines? No one as far as I know. If we got rid of everyone that got a bit of criticism, our squad number would be zero!

Firstly players don't just lose their ability completely to take set pieces, he is obviously just rusty due to the fact that Martinez doesn't like practising anything that isn't passing. Another point, Martinez's style has also effected the way in which he plays and is instructed in what to do is a whole different system now under Martinez. Thirdly, you're saying sell a proven class left back that's out of form, when the whole team is aswell (bar a few) for a player we've seen play first team football a handful of times, its just ridiculous. I'm 100% up for giving youngsters a go in the team but no way should we be selling Baines and putting in a potential and not a completed player yet. A dew bad performance from the youngster and youll be crying to bring back baines and talking trash about garbutt and Martinez for picking him, much like the Robles situation was a while back.

No I wont, I had a go at joel because he WAS bad, he wasnt good for one game then bad the next then I had a go. I doubt garbutt will be happy playing left wing, its obviously a horrible scenario we find ourselves in, I just think baines is past it, he may have the record, doest mean much, lacina traore has the best goal to game ratio in fa cup history probably, doesn't make him world class.

Degsy I disagree for once, I bet garbutt is a better defender than baines, hell, we're all probably better defenders than baines. let's see what baines cannot do anymore, he can't cross, haven't seen him sprint for a long time, can't defend to the extreme, hasn't put in a good ball for a long time, his link up has been terribe for ages. People will say 'hes without pienaar', but if you rely on STEVEN PIENAAR to try at all then that's not good enough. Least garbutt can develop his defending, unlike baines who has never bothered, he just let's distin do it for him after he gets ripped, garbutt's deliveries have been top notch and he at least shows a bit of passion, bryan for me is just boss

But swan no point in upsettin bains by rrplacin him with garbutt if at the end off season garbutt is off to the other side cause that mite make bains want to leave an then were just left with bryan for left back

I have a better idea. Just get rid of Martinez and bring in a man with a backbone who picks a side on merit rather than by name alone. Baines,Barry and Lukaku should all have been dropped in recent games due to poor form.

{Ed025's Note - i wish i could argue with that gray..
