I think a point was about as good as both teams could hope for as neither looked like winning it. DCL has popped up with some really important goals this season. The lad has done well and also I agree that Holgate has been our best defender. Our midfield is a worrying issue. Injuries haven't helped. I hope that DCL doesn't get injured as having Niasse as a "main" striker is just crazy. Glad that Cenk got a goal for Palace as well.

Here's an unrelated question for people. If Villa were to get relegated would you want us to try and sign Jack Grealish? From what I've seen of him this season - he goes (& passes) forward, gets assists and is getting amongst the goals which is something our midfield is crying out for.

I think Grealish is one of the most exciting players in the prem at the moment. Would be a great player for EFC as we need creativity. Relying on Bernard.

Yes I also agree Grealish would be a good signing I expect there would be quite a few offers for him, that's if he could actually tear himself away from Villa. He may turn out to be a one club man.

I didn't mention DCL or Kean I said the midfield wasn't good enough.

My post wasnt just directed at you skylark. It is more to point out that players don't simply reach 21 and stop getting any better. They are young and still have plenty of time to develop.

Christiano Ronaldo was being slated by fans and press for trying to many tricks and wasting away his career in the seasons he was 20 and 21. Needs to stop doing step over and stop losing the ball by running into blind alleys. He'd scored 14 goals in total in the league over the past two seasons.

He learnt season by season and by training hard on how to improve. The age of 22 he started to develop his game and by the age of 24/ 25 he realised his full potential.

And this guy is probably in the top 5 of all time greatest footballers.

I'm not stupid and putting any of our players in this category but it just shows you that judging a player at this early stage of their career is both naive and a bit stupid. Give time and support to these kids and they can become great.

DCL is showing this season that we genuinely have a good number 9 already. And since Big Dunc took charge for a while he has stepped up another level. He is on course to becoming a very good number 9. Our front 3 are indeed very young. But they’re a threat. And other teams know this.

DCL could take his chance in the England squad with Kane out injured

Richarlison is already a pick for Brazil

Kean has a bright future for Italy.

That’s three of the top 10 teams on the planet

We really have to look at this positively as it looks very rosey for the future.

But we have no midfield or defence.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jan 2020 20:48:36
I wouldn’t go that far Skylark but I agree it needs strengthening. We do have injuries affecting the midfield, defence needs more work though.

Although our defence would look less shaky if the midfield could move the ball quicker. Moving the ball forward and away from the defence. Taking pressure off them and putting on the opposing side. They are so slow right now it’s frustrating.

20 Jan 2020 13:15:41
Imagine you are a defender and every time you pass the ball to a midfielder he gives you it back. Therefore putting the onus on you to do something with it.
The job of a defender is first and foremost to defend, not to be expected to play 30 yard passes to another player. If you constantly play the ball back to them then you are going to see mistakes, or see them giving the ball away.
We need midfielders who can collect the ball, turn and play a pass forward. I watched young Moise on Saturday, and in particular the runs that he was making, and not once did a ball get played into him. Now you can slate the kid as much as you want, but if he is getting no service then the goals won't come. Even Aguero would struggle to score in this team.

Question for the eds, if we go into admin, can we cancel our player contracts like Rangers did or will we still be stuck with them? Sorry if this has already been covered but I could not see if this had been discussed.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Everton are not going in to Administration and are not cancelling any contracts.}

Emre Can! What is it with Everton and other sides cast off's.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

19 Jan 2020 15:03:08
Probably absolutely nothing duck, just lazy journalism designed to ruffle the feathers, we will be linked with every midfielder and his mate that currently can't get a place in there current team, last thing we need is more deadwood on our books.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jan 2020 15:19:25
DFS I don’t think Can was a cast off, I’m sure he let his contract run down and leave Liverpool on a free.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jan 2020 16:18:26
Dollo, and currently can't get into his current side - as I said, cast off -.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jan 2020 18:58:50
So in your eyes, any player is a cast off that we go for, well that's that jan transfer targets sorted ey.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jan 2020 20:32:56
"as I said, cast off". Quite frankly one only requires a smidgeon of intelligence to see that the point Dollo made was correct and your assertion that it reinforces your claim is ludicrous. Liverpool wanted him to sign a new contract, he chose not to because he wanted to leave for free. Liverpool did not cast him off.

19 Jan 2020 22:56:44
Gbamin was important player who his club didn't want to sell, same with Richarlison. Bernard left on free but again his club wanted him to stay. Siggy was the same, sold but Swansea didn't w as nt him to go, so there's 4 who aren't cast offs. Also Pickford. People need to get that we only sign cast offs out their heads.

I was watching our game on motd last night through one eye after a few don revies I started laughing to myself watching oumar niasse, he runs around and plays football like someone has threw a quilt over his head. Sorry fellas just a bit of lightheartedness.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

19 Jan 2020 13:03:29
The fact that he’s still at the club and was brought on makes me think the guys running the club might also have a quilt over their head lol.

For me that really hit home just how bad the squad situation is. And I honestly don’t see how it can be changed quickly tbh.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jan 2020 13:51:40
Yeah it's worrying, so many injuries and senior players who just don't cut it. I can't see any incoming players in this window. But at least when we get players back from injuries it will be like new signings.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jan 2020 15:00:55
Loan tosun out and he scores, niasse refuses loans and is now our only back up. Grim.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jan 2020 18:07:45
As long as we are putting Niasse on the bench he will refuse all loans from Championship teams.

Bit baffling we want rid yet we give him a game, best keeping the guy out of view of potential suitors or he will be with us until his contract runs out.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jan 2020 18:35:58
I thought that big Nev. We want him gone yet he's in the squad and getting game time on a bigger wage than he'd get anywhere else. Where's the incentive for him to leave? Baffling.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jan 2020 19:07:00
No one who plays Palace put bodies behind the ball. Teams do for us. So it's a bit easier for a striker at one of those teams. We all saw enough of Tosun to know he knows where the goal is but was always half a second too slow to react, run and stick a toe out. Also he's lost some more hair so maybe he's sped up fractionally.

Mason Holgate has been our best defender so far this season. I think this is a prime example of youngsters needing time and the need for patience with them. Look at Dier and Mustafi, they were not given the time and opportunity they needed. Same with DCL, he is really coming on this season. I believe Davies will become what we need but the problem is that he hasn't really got someone next to him that can dominate midfield and move the ball quickly. Two big positives this season are Holgate and DCL. Great young footballers. These are the sort of transfers we need to be investing in.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

19 Jan 2020 09:03:50
I think Davies needs to step it up a bit and be the player to move quickly and pass the ball forwards. He shouldn't need someone alongside him who can do it. He's been in 1st team long enough to be the player to control a midfield. Just my opinion on him.

Agree3 Disagree0

19 Jan 2020 11:29:10
I disagree dentilad Davies has by 21 played under 6 different managers and never had a run next to a consistent partner that's hard for a 21 year old still learning the game I personally believe he can be top quality but he still needs an experienced player to talk him through some games and Delph certainly isn't that player.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jan 2020 11:52:09
Davis is not for me just not good enough the same as the rest of the midfield.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Jan 2020 12:26:46
Davis and DCL good subs at best, would they get in any the top 4 clubs? no.

Agree4 Disagree0

19 Jan 2020 13:44:48
But we aren't top 4, should be looking at players in similar clubs to us, and definitely play for likes of wolves palace, maybe not Arsenal.

Lee1616. DCL, your having a laugh, do you watch the game (s) .

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jan 2020 13:52:11
I don’t see how DCL’s just a ‘good sub’. For me he’s a great player, still very young and 9 times out of 10 plays the shift up top on his own, before he started scoring this season I actually would of said the same thing. I think he’s underrated and we’re lucky to have him. Not that we’re anywhere near the top 4 anyway but I’d put him ahead of Abraham at the minute and he’d probably get a game at spurs cause of there situation too. That being said, just ones opinion 👍🏻.

Davies at 21 is doing superbly. He's in a position that has probably the second most pressure and demand and he's handled it well. He'll peak in around 6 years time and the amount of experience he'll have by then will stand him up against most. Gomes has learnt his trade at top clubs like Valencia and Barcelona, Schinds at Man Utd, Delph at Leeds, Villa and City. Davies in a struggling Everton with 6 managers.

The demands of our fans is completely unrealistic on young players. Even Gordon on his 45 minute debut got stick for yesterday. Stick after 45 minutes of football at the age of 18!

Look at DCL. Absolutely slaughtered since he's been in the first team. Gets a manager who understands what a centre forward should be doing and changes the way he plays and all of a sudden he's scoring goals. He's 1 off Salah and 2 off Kane. He's even got a better goals to minutes on the pitch against these two because he's not even started most matches this season!

As for Kean. 19 years old in a new country, new league, new team, three managers in 6 months. He shouldn't be a regular in this team for another two years and should just be in an around the 1st team. DCL should have an experienced CF with him not a 19 year old who's played a handful of games in the last 2 years.

Kean has played 1800 (20 games equivalent) minutes in 2 seasons for Juve and just over 700 minutes for us and yet everyone is expecting the lad to be top scorer in the league.

The lack of understanding is remarkable.

Sorry Davies just isn't good enough, falls over when tries to go past players, no pace, gives ball away.
I wanted him to be a success obviously with him Being a blue and a scouser, but he just doesn't do it for me.

19 Jan 2020 16:30:07
What every one forgets is davies is like a 5th choice midfielder if gomes is for an gbamin they start then u have delph then sigg its just because we are the bad with injury's he has to play the kid isn't good enough he is championship player at best.

Blue John Uns time will tell on both. DCL has looked far better in a 4-4-2 to be fair to him. I think he'll have a good career in the prem. On Davies I'm interested to know what you rate so highly about him - strength? pace? skill? passing? vision? Reading of the game? tackling?
