A lot of people outside of Everton seem to think we are a danger to the top 6 now. It's interesting to see and is a good sign of progress. For me, Silva has turned us into a rock solid team defensively and is the most impressing factor of his reign so far. The midfield is looking good with good options. We just need to find a more clinical edge and I think that progress will be made throughout the season just like the defensive qualities improved. It will take time still so as long as we finish 7th I think we are good. Its about progress season to season like Klopp and Pochettino rather than instant success like Leicester. Silva was compared to Martinez and I think that comparison is well and truly dead. The team shape, commitment to the cause, heart and work rate is unbelievable. I think the current squad has a lot of potential to improve over the season, especially with Moise Kean and when he beds in properly. What does everyone think about our top 6 chances? I think the only two teams we could nick the spot off are United and Chelsea.

Good post blue-tit, hopefully ducksflysouth reads your post and removes some of the doom and gloom they have for the season ahead.
2 games in 2 clean sheets, 4pts on the board and only 2pts off the top of the table, agree with you that looking good for the season ahead in my opinion.

Where we end up will depend on how quickly and how well Marco can integrate the new players into the team. We've had one and a half games from Gbamin and, although promising, it looks like he needs a while to get used to the speed/ intensity of the league, 2 cameos of Kean and nothing yet from Delph, Iwobi and Sidibe

Don't forget, it took a while for Gomes, and Bernard to become regulars last season and Mina was hampered by injuries all through the season

We've started well with a draw and a win plus being the only side yet to concede a goal but this was not against top premiership level sides (apologies to Watford but they look. early days, like they have gone backwards)

I think we can compete against the likes of Arsenal, Man U and Chelsea this season and have no reason to fear the teams who were on our level last year Wolves, Leicester, Watford and West Ham

There's no reason for us to not think we could be top 6 this year but it's not a given by any means and it's about time we gave the Reds a bit of a going over and actually take the points this time.

Top six is only ever about consistency. It’s foolish to assume who will be there or there about based on the first two games. Currently the best options for top six are the ones who occupied those positions last season. Then after that we can add the following factors.

The inexperience. of Frank Lampard and OGS. Europa league football schedule problems for Wolves and the possibility of Arsenal imploding for sentiment sake.

If any of these are a reality then we as a team need to be ready to take advantage. For that we need to be consistent. No months off for the defence like last season. No early season leniency given to Siggy. If players are not performing then we need to be brutal and drop them. Let them know that even if they are young, the premier league demands maturity and a reaction to be better than they were when they were dropped.

That’s the attitude of winners. As the saying goes “Show me a good loser and I’ll show you a loser! ”.

To get into the top six in this ever so long competition will take consistency, honesty and probably a little bit of VAR. Not to mention some of the old establishment pretty much cocking it up.

COYB!

{Ed025's Note - i enjoyed that post ace..

We have improved. We were 8th last season and will be better this season. Wolves have looked awful so far apart from a Neves wonder goal.

Leicester look decent but they haven't bought well enough to compete for top 6 or 7.

Watford won't be anywhere near it will be Bournemouth who take their place.
Everton will finish 6th or 7th this time.

Watford hit the post in this game Deeney through on goal without a defender in sight except Pickford (took one for the Team) . Two other chances. Our goal came from a wordly pass from the brilliant Digne, first half. Second half Watford came back at us. Moise came on and looks the business, much maligned Walcot did well (consistency! ) . So if Watford have gone backwards, doesn't say a lot. First three games winnable, let's see where we are after a woeful Villa.

DFS is right. We kept Watford at bay for pretty much most of the game and shows how much we have improved defensively from the last two years. Additionally, we now have players capable of individual moments of magic to unlock defenses in tight games.

Since February I can't remember a team creating many chances against us and that is a huge difference. Add on top of that how much we control the ball now and you can see when this team clicks going forward we will be a match for most teams.

I'm happy with 10th to 7th again this season but much more confident it pushing the top 6.

Confidence needs to be matched with consistency and ambition. Not just from the players and staff but from the fans as well. let's make sure we are the twelfth man for our team and not the opposition.

Kind of want us to get beat on Friday and see what DFS has to say. He's setting it up nicely to unload a barrel of abuse for Marco. That little drop of woeful Villa and hope inside him that we fall foul.

"I said when we got him he was a load of rubbish", "I said when in January he was crap and after every defeat".

But it's all been too quiet lately with us getting results but you can smell it, taste it even, that when friday comes the pain and suffering will be all let out. 😂

Only a bit of banter DFS don't take it to heart. Come on the villa! 😂.

We have improved massively BlueJohn.
And I can see us getting better as the season goes on and with the new recruits coming in.
Watford bullied us last season but this time even with 10 men we dominated them add to that some killer instinct from our forwards and we will have a very good season.

Some interesting posts. Consistancy of performance is the key to our season, part of that is having the ability to switch players in and out of the side with little disruption. We are not there yet but certainly on our way. We are still a few players short in critical positions before we have a squad that can cope with the difficulties we may face throughout the season. We are still in the build phase for this squad so imo shouldn't get hung up on too much on having to finish in the top six. If we can stay relatively injury free and slowly integrate our new players into the side then I can see us progressing substantially this season finishing somewhere between 8th and 4th.

I want to improve so 7th minimum any better then great.

Good one BlueJohn, lose on
Friday and dfs and dc will be having a conga on here mate.

Be nice to stick a 3 nil silky performance in, but I will settle for a Clean sheet and the winner coming off Walcotts backside via a mirubbish clearance, wins a win at the end of the Day.

Yeah. Here's hoping we get a drab and dreary 3 - 0 win.
That should keep everyone happy.
