Just an appreciation post to say what a brilliant player Idrissa Gana Gueye is for this football club.
For too long, SOME supporters have dug Idrissa out and slagged his game off to high heaven. I think it is time that those people start appreciating what a player this man is and how important he is to this team.
There are complaints that he "constantly" gives the ball away and can't pass a ball. Personally I think he has been incorrectly judged by the howler he gave away at Leicester and Arsenal and that has stained peoples perception of him because those mistakes ultimately cost us goals.
It is an absolute myth that he can't pass. The lad boasts an 84% pass completion, playing in the centre of the park, not sat knocking it round sideways at the back. He has completed 725 out of 858 passes this season, doesn't sound too shabby to me.
Even if his passing was as bad as some like to make out, what he offers out of possession cannot be replicated by ANYBODY else in this squad. The man is 34 and he is still an absolute animal in intercepting the ball and stealing it away from opponents. The midfield looks completely disjointed without him, evident more than ever in the obliteration by Chelsea this season, not a chance that would have happened had he been on the field.
It is not a coincidence that our two best runs this season are when Idrissa is in the middle of the park.
To top it all off, the lad has put up his best goal scoring season to date and what massive goals they were. A winner against Crystal Palace away, a goal against Forest to get us on our way to 3 points against a relegation rival and another winner against Brentford to move us above them in the table.
Although he didn't come up with a goal in the derby, he was the best player on the pitch by a country mile.
Take a bow Idrissa. I hope you get the extension that you so thoroughly deserve mate!

Undisputed fact BR but he is still comfortably our best midfielder, which I guess says more about this squad, than it does anything else mate.
I think he has definitely shown he can still reach the necessary level to compete in the PL and has earned a year extension. I think it would be prudent for us to keep him on as it would give us one less thing to worry about in terms of incomings.

Need to reduce team age and salary. Would help as a squad player, but not on his current salary. Oh and player of the season has to be Branthwaite, the season is more than six games.
